Default LED Light Bulbs

Just wondering if anybody has used these? I've seen them at Home Depot for $10, and they say they only use 1 watt of power. But nothing on them indicates how much light they give off; like the CFLs will tell you what the comparable is.

I wanted to get a couple to use on my garage and leave them on most of the time; without using a lot of power. I just don't want to end up with something with the brightness of a solar light.

The new goggles also do nothing.

From what I've read their brightness is waaay below that of CFLs, which is probably why they don't put an actual lumens rating on them.

There's usually a whole bunch of LEDs in one "bulb" so they'll probably be brighter than those solar lights, but I wouldn't expect to be able to do any work in the garage with them.

Yeah, my plan was to use them on the outside of the garage for lighting; mostly for security. I can't use a CFL with a photo sensor, and I can't use a timer because at the time I wired my garage I made that light a 3 way switch- thinking that I was thinking ahead.

best thing about LED's, though, they don't attract bugs (moths, mosq's, etc..). If you can get enough light out of them for outside - i'd say go for it.

The ones that are similar in brightness to incandescent and CFLs are like $80, but they supposedly last 20+ years. Still, quite an investment in a light bulb.

We have some LED GU10 (halogen track lighting) bulbs at our office, in fact, my office is totally LED bulbs, a LED bulb that is about 4 watts is about as bright as a 30-35 Watt Halogen bulb. I have ten of the LED bulbs in my office, and that is plenty of light.

They are expensive, but they should last about 10 times as long as a CFL bulb. The ones we have were $36 a bulb.

A 1 Watt LED bulb won't give off much light, you'll want to find one that is about 3-4 watts, if it for anything other than mood lighting.

This is where we bought our LED bulbs, they are out of Saskatoon.

Thanks to them operating a LOT cooler then the equivalent halogen bulb, you wont have to Air Condition as much in the summer.

Not really helpful to your question but Radiohead used LED lights for their light show on their latest tour. Really cool.
