Ugh, sorry folks - I got hung up and now it's 1am my time, this will have to be swift for now...

With this pick in this round Team Clint Eastwood selects Manhattan (1979) in the B&W category.

My personal favorite from the Woody Allen oeuvre (nearly a tie with the already-selected Annie Hall). More to come!

By switching Gone with the Wind to the Pre-60's category, with the 221st(?) pick, Team MissTeeks selects in the Best Picture Category, Chicago.

Yes, I'm double-dipping in the musical department but I was unsure of what to draft in the pre-60's category so I had to do some shuffling.

Chicago won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2003, up against Gangs of New York, The Hours, The Pianist and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I think most people were expecting one of the other movies to win, but Chicago was the first musical to win the Oscar since Oliver! in 1969. I liked this movie because it has a great soundtrack and something about watching Richard Gere tap dancing is just awesome. The best performances in the movie were Catherine Zeta Jones and John C. Reilly.

This is the best song in the movie

With the 222nd pick, Team REDVAN selects:

ALI in the "non-fiction" category... it's listed as a biography so does that work?

IMO, Will Smith did an amazing job as Ali, and gave a better performance in this than Denzel did in Training Day (same year), so I was very disappointed that they gave the Oscar to Denzel when Will had a better performance. Alas, I guess it was a lifetime Oscar for Denzel.

To me, this movie showed that Will Smith was a serious actor, and not just a funny guy playing an action hero in movies. Hope he starts to do some more movies when his kids grow older.

With the 223rd pick overall DVD-eh is pleased to select, in the Documentary/non-fiction category

Catch me if you can

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, catch me if you can is based on the autobiography of Frank Abagnale Jr. who before his 19th birthday conned millions of dollars worth of cheques as a pilot, a doctor and a Louisianna prosecutor

Well, I really wanted to pick an authentic documentary, but there's a non-fiction that's just too good for me to pass up. In the documentary / non-fiction, 6 Degrees of Troy McClure select Dog Day Afternoon. Jeez, I think that's about the fifth 70s film I've picked so far, but I love this one.

Well I tried picking that same movie in the same category a few rounds ago and got shot down so my guess will be that NO.

Any movie (loosely) based on a true event is now accepted as non-fiction? Works for me.

When did that happen? I don't see it anywhere.

After United 93 was chosen, you posted this...

...to which, GirlySports said...

The only objection was to Titanic because it doesn't claim to be an historical re-enactment as much as a fictional story told around the context of an historical event...

In the 10th post in this thread, I asked for clarification about the definition of "Non-Fiction", and GirlySports's response in the 14th post said: "...An account or representation of a person's life...", to which no one objected.

Also, you chose your documentary in the second round, so when did you try to take Ali?

I'd say that Catch Me If You Can and Dog Day Afternoon push the limits of "non-fiction" more than Ali does. If those two are allowed, I don't see how you can deny Ali.

I will move it if need be. The commish is the only one who can tell me the official stance.

Otherwise, I think it is a legitimate biopick/non-fiction/documentary.

If Ali is allowed, that's weak, my pick of Titanic got rejected to the non fiction category.

ya but thats because it was a fictional story set in a real event. the whole story between the two people didnt actually happen. Ali's story did. Taking Titanic is like taking Pearl Harbour
