Obviously, I have bad days. I'm not perfect in any stretch of the imagination... but I do my best to be a decent person and not treat others differently just because of what they do, or how they dress.
I've had a lot of different jobs in my time.... I was a social worker, an addictions counselor... I managed a drop-in center for homeless people... I've even been in their shoes a time or two.
I just don't see the point in walking through life with blinders on. It takes all kinds of people to make the world turn, and I'm no better and no worse than any one of them.
I need to add, though, that I am not naive. Obviously, it takes some people less time to lose my trust and respect than others. If I see some jackass roll up beside me in pimp-mobile, with thug lights and an uzi... I'm probably not going to lend him 20 bucks.

My best friend quit addictions counselling to work for the post office because she couldnt take it any more. She started out as a very sheltered born-again Christian who told all the addicts they just needed Christ. It didn't take her long to realize she was wrong, and she wrote several beautiful poems about her "transformation" from judgmental to, uh ,more realistic. Do you guys have any idea how many of your wonderful Godlike hockey heroes come to Florida for rehab? You don't want to know.

Just to wade into the discussion, better late than never, with another female point of view.....go for it!
Seriously a job is a job is a job - this isn't the time when people are going to wait and crucify/stone you for doing something "immoral" (well most people won't ).....and as you said, MissD...noone's taking care of your bills for you.
Is phone sex something you'll get addicted to and be unable to stop? Unlikely - it strikes me as a kind of job (like working somewhere that gives as much of their product away as you want) you'd get bored with much more likely. Because let's be honest, if most of the people, male or female, calling these services had a bit more creativity they wouldn't need the service being provided.
I'd say give it a shot, if nothing else it should be able to start some interesting conversations down the road....

Thank you so much. In Psych 101 I learned that calling another woman a "slut" is a sure sign of sexual jealousy. I don't know if it's true and I just don't get it, but I do know I have to take care of myself and kinda quickly. Yeah the stories will be good dontcha think? And speaking of "Dontcha" what about stuff like the cat Dolls? Is that moe wholesome than phone sex??

No one is telling her not to do it. She asked if it would "influence your decision to date her?"
We are just giving her some food for thought.

I'm much the same way. I live my life based on my own set of morals and values. Nor am i easly swayed by how others live thier lives or thier values for that matter. To me a person is a fake and fraud if they live thier lives based on what the majority rules. Be true to yourself and what is important to ones self.

When I used to work for AADAC... one of the things I picked up from an seminar, was this guy talking about "fitting in."
He had this client that was upset because people would call her a whore because of the way she dressed. So he called her a chair. She responded with incredulity, and asked what he was talking about. He said he just called her a chair and asked if that upset her. She said no, why would it upset her - she's not a chair...
So then he asked her if she was a whore.... and that's when the light went on.
The point is... if you know who you are, and you know who you aren't, then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. Find people who won't judge you by your cover, and you'll be better off.
...and I've always found the Pu$$ycat Dolls much easier to watch on mute, with Metallica playing in the background.

Well you know the old cliche, all women in their heart of hearts are "whores" - it's just jealousy from the ones working for free or minumum wage that breeds the cattiness.....LOL....
If you go thru with it, keep us posted, I'm curious about how you'll find it a few days/weeks/however long into the circus.

I will. Yeah in my heart I am a 'ho. At some point I'll PM you about something that happened with someone you've at least heard of. But being a 'ho just doesn't work in the real world

Well, keep yelling your rebel yell if it lets you sleep at night.
Sadly, MissD doesnt live in your sheltered world though, seeing as how she does "give a rats ass what society thinks" - she started this thread explicitly asking what we, as outsiders, think about people who perform phone sex.
The whole point of my argument, is that the majority of people will take exception to it, and that's the state of the world.
And since finishing posts with quotes is becoming the style of the majority: No man is an island .

I'm watching a "Scrubs" rerun... I don't know the character's name . He's one of the doctors. He just asked Elliot "what are your boobs like". So ther's no prurient intent on the part of the writer/network with something like that?

No she didn't. She asked if us, as individuals, would be able to date someone that does phone sex for a part time job.
- You'd have a problem with dating a phone sex worker, because you'd be too afraid of what everyone else would think.
- I'd have no such problems. It takes a lot more than a sexy voice and an ability to talk dirty to scare me off.

...and the whole point of my argument is that not everyone cares what the majority thinks. When you start living my life for me, and start paying my bills and carrying my burdens for me, then I'll let you tell me how to think.
Until then, if it's all the same, I'll decide for myself what to believe in.
(...and I hope you can understand that I'm not advocating either side as right or wrong, that's the beauty of my outlook: nobody has to agree with me )
Edit: I have to add that I'm a little shocked to have someone as (seemingly) judgmental as yourself claiming that I'm the one living a sheltered life. You should hear some of the stories I have. You'd be amazed at what I've seen and done in my "sheltered world."

Oh man dirty talk doesn't scare you off? What does a girl have to do? As for right/wrong...in my perfect world everyone is monogamous and porn doesn't exist. But it's not my world.

Yes, I'm sure the scope of her interest was limited entirely to individuals on an internet forum, that she has never met personally, as opposed to getting a general consensus on what people thought, and extrapolating to real life .

The permanence of the world is not up for ownership. The interactions of situations is. How you feel about it is more important than anything else.
You are evidently still young, and so I will end this post with another quote,
Don't make the bed that you aren't willing to sleep in.
