Time to confess one of my favorite activities. Drinking beer and belting out the tunes at a bar. There is just such a great feeling singing your favorite songs right from the heart and watching as people enjoy (or lack thereof) your 'performance'.
I have to admit, I used to hate it. I worked at Boston Pizza Bow Trail many moons ago, and I would avoid the place like the plague on Saturday's for that reason.
Then one day I had too work late and after a brutal shift decided to have a tall beer in the lounge. Well, my friend and karaoke host saw this as an opportunity and filled me with so much liquid courage, he had me up a few times. I was hooked.
In Vancouver, I found a good local that had karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays along with $2.75 bottles of beer, a perfect mix for this guy. Good crowd, fun regulars and good song selection.
I must admit since I moved back to Calgary in June, I haven't found a good bar to be a 'regular'.
Any other singers on cp? Perhaps you know the best place in town too make use of those talented vocal cords!

A friend of mine in Calgary does this and sings in a bar by the Sunridge Mall called Glenns Job Site.
I've been interested in trying karaoke out, but the times I've gone I was never courageous/hammered enough to try.
I've only ever been to one place that was an actual karaoke bar and that Nanta downtown, and I've only been there once. I can't vouch for how good it is on a regular basis, but everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Edit: ^^ Glenns isn't too bad of a place. Been there on New Years a few years back.
We go to The Point and Feather up in Ranchlands for karaoke at least once a month. They have it Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I need a lot of liquid courage to get up there, and I'll only sing with a group and it is usually "Don't Stop Believin". My sister used to be the same way, but now she's totally hooked on it and goes up like 3 times a night.
My parents have had a karaoke machine since I was 12. They used to have a lazer disc player, that thing was so ancient! They are known to sit in the living room on Friday nights singing all night. And a night of karaoke in Sicamous at Brother's Pub doesn't usually start going until my parents show up.

It's been a few years since I was dragged there kicking and screaming, but I think the Stonegate in Acadia has Karaoke every night.
Yeah, Stonegate is one of the most popular spots. It's run by Papa Conrad who used to have a joint named for himself on 16th Ave NW more than 10 years ago.
Technically, it's in Fairview but who likes a nitpicker???
Location: Close enough to make a beer run during a TV timeout

Yeah, I knew that but didn't want to admit just how much I knew about the karaoke scene in Calgary.
I was in Japan last year and did Karaoke and it was so amazing. I found it to be a little better there because EVERYONE does it.
Here in Calgary there is a place in Inglewood where it's karaoke the whole time. I don't know the exact address and name but if you go to the heart of Inglewood on 9th Ave I think it's right beside the Harley pub... if your looking for it you can't miss it.

So far that's one of the only bars in the inner-city (I like a cheap cab or close stumble home) that has been recommended. As much as the suburb bars probably kick ass for karaoke, the cab ride back to the Beltline would likely cost as much as the drinks that required me to take it.
I tried Ducky's but it was almost too 'busy' for me. I was there for 4 hours and only sang once. Maybe I should try it on a weeknight.
So far so good, looks like I'm not the only singin' cper!
the Alcove by McMahon has karaoke and $2 shots of sambuca on Fridays and Saturdays, it's always been a great time especially when you bring a large group but it's also dirty as hell haha

Lol, that place is hell on earth. I've been booted 3 times and banned for life twice. New ownership is great, its just a different perspective on the same thing.
Anyways, what a hole.
If you want to see drunk suburban warpigs belt out a few tunes its the place for you. Otherwise, steer fataing clear.
Karaoke is the devil. I make a concerted effort to avoid it.

He seems to quite like it there.
This bar has the distinction of being the only Karaoke bar I have ever been to. The Bikini waitress who spilled a couple of drinks on me then procceded to rub me down to dry me off was one of the highlights.
