A while ago I did some research on this. Better than the Guinness to Bud light comparison, I compared Bud to Bud light. In Canada the difference was something like 145 calories to 135 calories. So as others have said, not significant.

One thing that infuriates me: I'm having a party. It's informally BYOB, but I've got about a dozen beers in the fridge, a mix of big rocks, some rickards, some european tall ones like guiness and boddingtons. The next morning, I check my fridge, and all of my beer is gone (which is fine, I wouldn't mind people dipping into mine if their out of their own or forgot to bring any), but someone has left a dozen Coors Light in the fridge. So a couple guys brought their crap beer over, stuck it in the fridge, and proceeded to drink all of mine. After about a year of hoping that guests would drink it, I ended up pouring it down the drain. Doesn't even have enough flavour to use for cooking.

Why?

Because I don't like Pilsner? Sorry, it's crap. The only thing worse is Bud. Ugghhh.

Then again, numerous people in this thread have called my beer of choice (Coors Light) crap, swill, not even good enough to cook with, so each to his own right?

Let me know if this happens again....I will gladly come and pick them up. Pouring them down the sink.....thats alcohol abuse.

I highly recommend Traditional Ale.

Actually, I've seen these drinks lately which is Trad on the bottom with Guiness on top. Don't really know how it works and haven't tried one yet, but will soon. I think it was at the Ship...

And yes, for the record, Coors Light is the most pathetic beer on the planet. Even worse than Canadian, Bud, and Kokanee.

Guiness rules!

Fixed.

I drink both light and regular beers and don't care who knows or disapproves. But then I am over 50 and there comes a time that we have to be concerned with calories. To each his own.

I have a defective gene that encodes the acetaldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme so I can't break down alcohol properly.

I drink non-alcoholic beer mostly at home, but if I'm out, one bottle or pint a night is my limit.

I still don't drink light beer though!!!

I wish I could enjoy beer like most of you. I think I have a vastly different experience.

If anyone is looking to get rid of some crap beer like Coors Light, MGD or Molson, I find its great for making beer in the butt chicken. Thats usually what I do if I have a BYOB and people leave their crap beer at my place.

Kokanee - whats wrong with Kokanee? I mean it isn't great, but its cheap. I used to drink it alot since its a great economical beer, but I just started ordering a crate of international beer and it wasn't too much more per bottle.

If light beer is for old men? Isn't any beer with the word "Honey" in it for girls or effeminate men?

Ahh yes, the Black and Tan. Its a great beverage, as it combines the best elements of the stout and ale. I've done it with Trad and Grasshopper, and both work well. The trick is to pour it with an upside-down spoon... if poured gently, the Stout will float on top of the Ale.

As well, Kokanee and MGD are great economy domestic beers... yes, it doesn't stand up to the top beers, but who wants to pay $15 for a 6 pack of quality beer, or $3 a beer for Innis and Gunn just to guzzle it? Kokanee and MGD go down easy the whole night. Molson Canadian is fine once one is too drunk to know the difference. To me, that is the most offensive of the economy domestics.

I think it was actually past it's best-before date by that point. I cracked one and it tasted unusually foul, even for Coors, and the smell of it was just a bit musty. I'm sure I could have found someone who would have drank it, but I didn't think it safe.

Ah, I've been meaning to ask about that. I tried making one of these at home with Guiness and Boddingtons (which I'm almost sure I've had in bars before), and it just ended up sort of murky. Delicious, but murky. I'll try the spoon trick next time.

Black and Tans as well as Crown floats....mmmm tasty. The crown float is Strongbow and Guinness, which I HIGHLY recommend.

I golf probably 3 or 4 times a week, and consume 3 - 7 beers every game, that's just weekdays. Watching hockey is good for a couple of beers a night, bbq'ing, cutting the lawn, weekend, etc. etc. I drink a lot of beer.

So for calories, and not getting impaired I drink lite now. I still drink regular at special occasions, but for a daily beveredge, it's lite.
DuffMan has it exactly figured out. I'm not so sure about calling it Lite Beer training, but I've pretty much gone with Bud Light for my at home consumption since the start of this year. When you drink 5 or 6 beers a day you pretty much come to realize that light beer is the way to go.

Beer is an all the time drink around the house...so people that haven't realized this obviously don't drink enough beer. You guys are the pussies.
