Shipping alcohol to the US
So I have a friend that wants some of the beer that Big Rock Brewery out of Okotoks makes, and I picked him up a six pack of the Honey Brown beer.
He's from Oklahoma.
Is it possible to ship to him through Canada Post? Would I have to declare it or what?

Make sure the billing name is:
Osama-Bin Laden
and the contents are registered and insured as:
Guns covered in Anthrax.
Then it'll get there no problem.

Big Rock isn't made in Okotoks, it's made in Calgary
I think the best way to do it would be by courier, not by Canada post. Call Purolater and ask if it's at all possible

From Canada Post:
Quote:
Intoxicating beverages can only be exported from Canada by mail if:
the applicable requirements for export have been met and the international destination postal administration permits such mailings.
|
As for getting it into the states:
From the ATF
Quote:
If U.S. Customs and/or ATF decide that imported alcohol is for personal use, an importer's basic permit is not required nor is it necessary to obtain the certificate of label approval, however, all federal, state and local taxes must be paid. In addition, other State, local or U.S. Customs requirements may apply. It should be noted that some States prohibited the direct shipment of alcoholic beverages to individuals. Anyone interested in importing alcohol for personal use should contact their State liquor control agency. A list of State Liquor Control Boards is available on this web site.

hope that helps.

Your buddy can probably go to a local liquor store and order a crate of big rock, and it would be cheaper then mailing it. I know my fav beer, Lasko, doesn't sell in Alberta as far as I can tell, but Sobeys was willing to take a specail order as long as I buy in bulk.

As a young man, during the prohibition days, we used to smuggle booze across the Detroit River in the middle of the night.

Yeah, except he has never had it before, and IIRC Big Rock doesn't ship/sell to the US.
He just asked me to pick out a 'regional' beer, and send it to him.

There are sooo many cars at the bottom of the Detroit River because of prohibition. Funny thing, that river is so polluted today it never freezes. Back then it froze up solid enough to drive a car on.

Yeah? I'll have to look into that.
Purolator would ship it, but I have to get it approved, insured, vetted, etc, etc....and its not worth it.

First check out here to find out if you can ship through Canada Post
Then check here ( and select the US) to find out if the US will accept it.

I remember seeing Big Rock beer for sale in grocery stores in Washington State about 15 years ago.

The Detroit gangs of the day were all Jewish. Capone didn't mess with them either!
