Question 2: Would you live in America if you had the choice?
Serious question here.
If you could move to America tomorrow would you?

In a heart beat.
Especially if the Liberals win the next election.

Probably, depends where. Essentially it isn't much differant. Health care would be the biggest adjustment.

I've never lived anywhere but Canada, so I would probably take the opportunity to see if I liked living somewhere else.

I don't think I would arbitrarily move to the States unless I had a lot of money, family or work down there.

Well, not just "America". It would have to be San Diego. I couldn't imagine living in the midwest of the USA. Otherwise, no, I'm pretty happy here.

Depends, same standard of living as I have in Calgary in an area of my choosing, maybe. It doesnt matter who is in power federally in Canada so long as I live in Alberta.

San Diego is nice, but some the Midwestern cities aren't bad. Parts of Kansas City are absolutely beautiful (Overland Park for instance). Although it does have its share of run down area's as well, not unlike other major US cities.
If I had a choice it would be Manhattan.

There are so many economic advantages such as more cash flow, better job opportunities, less taxes, etc....
The thing that has really peaked my interest is the foreclosure market. I can get a house right now for about half of the value.

Perhaps, it really depends on which city. New York (esp. Brooklyn), Boston, or San Francisco, I'd be very interested in; and I'd probably also consider a number of smaller cool cities such as Portland, Minneapolis, Nashville, or Austin. But if I had the choice, there are probably cities in Europe I'd choose first.

If I could move to somewhere in the Carolinas or anywhere in the South, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

If I had to move to the US:
1) San Fran 2) Seattle 3) San Diego 4) Portland
NY is intriguing but not a place I think I could live full-time

Nope.
I think right now Canada has some pretty major advantages over living in the US.
Universal healthcare? Check
Lower Crime rate? Check
Economy not currently edging towards, or already in, a recession? Check
Not currently invovled in a quagmire of a war? Check
That being said, yes there are cities that I would move to if I had to (Raleigh, Denver, maybe a few others), but given the choice, I don't think anyone would be willing to pay me enough to move south.

Depends where and if I actually had a job in place that pays more than my current job.

Not really. My cousin is a 10+ year design engineer and pays about 50% in taxes.
You probably couldn't get into the forclosure market because you probably can't get a mortgage. You have no credit right now in the USA. Unless you are willing to pay cash for the property, you won't be getting into the market.
With things tightening up, you'd probably need citizenship to get a mortgage these days (didn't try, just a guess). If you get citizenship, then its sure as hell not going to help your cash flow if you decide to only live in the USA for a few years, as I believe Americans get taxed world wide.
There is definitely better opportunities, especially for professionals.
As for moving to the USA, depends where.

I could see myself settling down with some land in Montana or something like that. There are also a lot of nice cities in the US, so I would probably do it.
