Default Telus vs Shaw

So I am at a point where I have just about had enough of Telus.
I wont even get into the cruxt of it but lets just say that I am still receiving a bill from Telus from my old address and its been a year since I moved.

The thing is, I have everything with Telus; home phone, internet, mobility etc.

How is it dealing with Shaw?

I also have Starchoice satellite and I know that Shaw offers digital cable.

does anybody have any thoughts on doing a complete switch over to Shaw.

I love Shaw. In fact, the only time I have any sort of contact with them is when I move or change my services (which is rare because I usually do it via the web).

I have my tv, phone and internet with them.

The only thing I have with Telus is my cell phone. I have never had a problem with Shaw but naturally there are people that have. Both can be said about both companies I'm sure but nothing has happened with me with Shaw that really miffed me. Bills are always correct, come the same time each month, never lost my tv signal. I did on occasion have my modem power down and re-start sometimes a couple times a day for a week or so (I'm assuming that was Shaw doing that) but it was only down for a couple minutes each time. Shaw lets you know when they are doing work in your area that may affect your signal.

Dunno. I think Shaw internet beats the daylights out of Telus.

Long story short, never had a problem with Shaw, don't have enough with Telus to form an opinion.

Shaw is notorious for 'blackouts' with their TV and more so internet. I've been having problems with my HD service, not only the quality (noise cut outs, pixilation) but with the hardware as well. My internet cuts out every so often as well.

But... I will not go back to Telus. I find with every mistake or issue I have with Shaw, their customer service makes up for the problems. I can talk to someone right away, and they make it feel like it's something they did, not something I did. Telus will try and not fix or charge you for something first, unless you put up a stink. Shaw is quite the opposite, in my dealings with them.

For what it's worth, but for all the bad times, I'd still stick it out with Shaw.

This echos my experience with Shaw and Telus. I find that moneywise what they offer is comparable. However the service department in Shaw is lightyears ahead of Telus. Shaw believes in retaining customers through customer service whereas Telus believes in roping in unsuspecting new clients in on promotional pricing and signing them up with a bundled service for a long period contract time. Telus won't lift a finger to provide service to existing clients, except within six months of expiration of their contracts. At that point they try to sweetheart customers into signing up for another contract by offering deals, and other incentives to keep you around. I recommend not falling for those deals as when your first problem arises after re-upping they return back to stonewalling you.

It appears the corporate strategy at Telus is to ensure stable cashflows over multi-year periods. If they have to undercut their prices to keep existing customers or acquire new customers they will, but to maintain their margin they clearly underweight resources to their service departments.

My experience with Shaw hasn't been flawless, but I'd NEVER go back to Telus after dealing with them. I have phone, internet and tv through them and I don't really have a bad thing to say about any of it.

We switched our phone and internet over to Shaw after a number of long, drawn out frustrating issues with Telus.

Night and day difference with the service, Shaw is friendly and very efficient in our experience.

As for the Shaw internet/phone, no issues whatsoever.

i have had shaw for tv and internet my entire life. have never dealt with telus, but some of my friends have. I like not having a contract, and I can leave any time I want.
I hate the thought of being tied to a contract with telus for internet and tv.
Cell phones I have a hard enough time dealing with contracts.. Don't need any more thanks.

It's been two months and 6 separate attempts for me trying to get Shaw to port over my phone number from Telus.

After multiple conversations with both providers, I am left with nothing but bitterness towards each one. Until recently, my Team Lead at work had a few friends in the Digital Phone dept. at Shaw from when he worked there. He said that it can be a mess there. For example, they have 3 separate software systems. Some of it ties into each other, other parts require manual checks by support staff in order to ensure things get done properly. In short, the system is poorly designed and run by monkeys.

The various excuses I have received from Shaw:

- The address was incorrect
- The order wasn't submitted
- We didn't receive confirmation from Telus that we could port the number
- We are god damn fools and don't know anything

So yeah, the grass is not always greener on the other side. From the people I have spoken to in the Ports department at Telus, they actually sound like they have an idea of is going on, so I am sure at this point it is Shaw where the ball is getting dropped.

I had enough of it after the 6th failed attempt last week and am going back to Telus for my phone service. I need a phone and I want to retain the number we have had for the last 4 years. Shaw's customer service has been very below average thus far.

I will keep Shaw for the internet though, as it is so freakin fast, I still can't believe it. I was hitting over 600KB download last Friday night

It might be nice to have one bill, but here is how my services are going to break down:

Internet - Shaw
Phone - Telus
TV - Bell

I've had good and bad with all three providers.

I was with Shaw in the past but then went to Telus with internet.

After getting Telus TV a month ago, lets say somehow my TV broke right after installation and Telus was not going to replace.

So now I'm back with shaw for internt and HDTV.

Oh right, with Shaw, no contracts. Right there is a good enough reason to stay away from Telus. They LOVE their contracts.

As far as phone goes, all i have is a mobile, no land line. Kind of off topic, but why would anyone bother with a land line any more?
It seems almost silly. With mobiles being able to connect to wifi, you can do VOIP with a mobile.

Shaw > Telus. There are people who have had problems with both, so it just comes down to luck. For me, I'll never touch another Telus product ever again. But I'm sure there are others that say the same for Shaw

It might be based upon the area you are in and the amount of people who are using the services. I have had no blackouts in my area and I have had Shaw of 10+ years. I use them for phone/internet/TV and the only issue I have is with my router which once or twice a year I need to reset it.

I just moved my phone 4 months ago and Telus keeps sending me come back letters where I can have high speed interent and phone for only $76 while I pay $55 for the same thing from Shaw +- a few dollars for extras.

I've had problems with Shaw, but whenever I call them it gets sorted out.

I'd never go back to Telus ever. I hate the fact they make you sign a contract (still right?). I have everything with Shaw, Internet, Cable, Phone, and I am pretty happy with all of it.

Has anyone here tried free to air satellite? I dont know much about it but have been wondering if its a viable alternative to Shaw - where I get my cable. How many flames games would I miss?

As far as i know there is no HD content so it's a big NO for me.

If you want cheap satellite with all the channels just sign up for Bell and have 5 buddys share the system with you.

Full package with all movies,centre ice,NFL with 6 rented HD recievers costs $184.00/month. the only issue is they will only give you 3 dishes with 6 recievers so you have to hunt down 3 other dishes.

But you can't beat the value of about $30.00 a month for that package.
