It is pretty clear that the comment was made based on the color of the guy's skin. How can that be anything but racism?

It's often assumed that the white person is "evil"...while historically that has often been true,how can we reach any kind of understanding with all this vindictive crap?

Yeah, it seems to have...most threads that post a legitimate concern with racism seem turn into a thread about remembering that white people are subject to discrimination as well. Its kind of like reverse affirmative action.

Yeah you're right....partly my bad. I just know from my experience which I know is paltry to compared that of other races. But it is rough when people ASSUME yo're prejudice because you're white. A lot of the discourse about our upcoming Presidential election is pretty weird! If you dont like Obama it's assumed it's because you dont want a black president. There's alot going on saying the "white man" is obsolete but I think it's still a white man's world!!! Anyway I think so much of what we blame on race is really a social class issue...but we dont like talking about that because it's not supposed to exist.

Ha! You're a funny guy! I live in South Florida... you'd have to live here to understand the dynamics. Remeber how someone pointed out that prejudice is passed down through generations? This place is not all NY and NJ transplants. There are people both black and white from rural towns in places like Alabama and Georgia not that they're all ignorant in those places...I'm certainly not saying that...but in some of those places there is still so much of the "Old South" mentality that is brought down here. Hey if I didnt live here I wouldnt believe it either. It's better than it was 10 yrs. ago but you'd be surprised. Yeah they stilll say "honky" "cracker" etc. and there are not many racially mixed neighborhoods it's like going back in time.

I've seen that too, but then that's because I really only see it when it's directed at me....

It happens towards people with every skin colour from people with every skin colour. It is not a white vs the rest of the world issue. The problem is that whites perpetrated a lot of violence towards those of other skin colours throughout their history and they also hold a large majority of the power in the world... so it's obvious when whites do it to others. It's magnified and displayed all over the news. Some middle eastern dude telling me I'd get stoned to death in his country does not make the news...

Very well said. Anyone who doesn't understand that might take a little tour through,say,Selma,Alabama where you can still see segregated bathrooms,"Whites Only" restaurant signs (as museum relics of course) preserved so people can see that it all REALLY happened. I'm not on some "white guilt" trip but I can understand a black person looking at me and thinking ---if we still had slavery what would I be to you now?

Here is one of the main reasons that I think the word racist is used WAY to much.

As most people know, I am in the law enforcement field. There aren't many things that anger me more than being called a racist when I am doing my job. I am a racist if someone breaks the law and I am enforcing it. I am a racist if I am simply doing a interview or examination. I have been called a racist because the person it a women, black, brown and even white. One time, I was a racist because the group of people that were being dealt with were all white single males.

People throw out the race card way to much and for petty little things that have nothing to do with their race. I treat everyone the same and I have never treated anyone different BECAUSE of their race, gender, sexual preference.

Thats my rant.

That's a really good rant!! I often hear "I'd have gotten that job if I was black" etc. Who knows!! We LOVE to categorize and do all our little demographics crap that totally discounts people as individuals. Oh yeah life is so much easier when you're not inconvenienced by having to THINK.

Cops don't get a fair shake in most interpersonal encounters, whether race is the issue or not. You're already behind the 8-ball.
