Alright, I just got engaged.
I thought I would tap the collective wisdom of CP for a few ideas.
We are looking at a nice place to get married, hopefully in the SW. I grew up south of the city so we are considering Red Deer Lake community center, anyone have any other suggestions?
Honeymoon. Want somewhere with a beach but I also want to be able to go and see some awesome sights as well as not have to deal with ######ed crowds.
What did you forget to do on time for your wedding? Any more helpful tips?
Obviously my Fiancé(è?) has had this thing planned since she was three but any insight would be awesome.

I used to be Treasurer of the Community Association responsible for the upkeep of that Hall. It is a wonderful facility, beautiful setting, very reasonable compared to many places in Calgary, or at least it used to be, and you don't have to worry about the sound factor as much either.
Honeymoon, try Puerto Morelos, halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Very nice little fishing village, with great amenities but quiet and extremely safe. If you want crowds and action, then taxi 20 minutes either way and go to the big play centers. And from Puerto Morelos, you can still easily arrange side trips to the island of Cozumel, or Coba, Tulum, Chitinitza etc.
And by the way, CONGRATS!!!

Be sure to consider your how your guests are getting home. For example, if a bunch of them would be the "get drunk and grab a taxi" type, how hard is it to get a cab there?

Congratulations on the engagement.
Awesome sites, beaches, no crowds = The Big Island - Kona - Hawaii.
Went there for the first time at Easter. Incredible beaches, fantastic snorkelling just about anywhere, world class scuba diving (go night diving with manta rays!!) See the active volcanoe's lava flow (awesome!!) No crowds, and very clean. We absolutely loved it.

We got married at Shawnee Slopes golf course, just off Macleod by the Fish Creek LRT. Really nice, and the food was awesome!

Not hard at all, it is 3 miles from Spruce Meadows, within city limits.

Lol, I probably know you, or of you, my children went there too. This about the time Graham Sewell was principal?

I am getting married at the end of the month. Book everything you want as early as you can. It's never too soon to book the ceremony and reception locations, the photographer (go with CPer Neeper), the cake, etc etc.

Congrats. I've been with my girl for 8 years, and got engaged last year in July. We finally just put a deposit down on a place in Okotoks to get married... god, we're such procrastinators. But now that's out of the way, we can get the ball rolling.
Now if only we could agree on the invite list, we'd be golden.
