What would prevent Blizzard from keeping the same gaming format as Diablo II but charging a fee to use Battle.net?
Answer: Some sort of mental illness that makes you NOT want to make buttloads of money.

This was actually a theory that came up from one of the threads I was reading. They thought that the "Project Hydra" may be a kind of Universe that would link all of the Blizzard products, kind of like Steam or Xbox live, along with a monthly fee to play these games online.
Something like this would probably allow them to make an RPG like we remember in Diablo 3 (for single player) but also enable it to be play it online with friends much in the same way Guild Wars works (dedicated servers, people are separated into instances to ease work load), instead of the browser-based setup of old Bnet.

What would be the chances of them dropping the current Diablo world and basing a new game off of The Divine Comedy? I always thought that would make a cool Diablo theme. Also, in Dante's Inferno the ninth level of hell has Satan frozen in ice, kind of has me wondering.

They supposedly have confirmation from an inside source that Diablo III will be announced this weekend. The announcement will also coincide with the June 28, 2000 release date of Diablo II. That was 8 years ago people. By the time we get Diablo III we're probably looking at the tenth anniversary of it's immediate predecessor.

StarCraft was released in 1998, so it will be at least 10 years before SCII comes out, assuming it's on shelves before the end of 2008. Most likely, I think the smart money is on a 2009 release for SCII.

Saw this on Kotaku, kind of looks like Death Knight from Wrath of the Lich King.

Not just any Death Knight, that's Arthas. I would agree with you on that except that it looks more like a furrowed brow than the helmet pictured.
Anyway, speculating on this is fun, but in reality they'll announce whatever they want to announce and they aren't giving it away in this teaser no matter what. Most of what people see is what they want to see. They could have put pictures of kittens and giraffes as a teaser and half the people would still think it meant Diablo 3.
I'm going to be out of town for the weekend, so I won't be able to hear what the announcement is until I get back.
And it had better gorram be Diablo.

It is Diablo 3, It takes common sense to have common sense and common sense means it is Diablo 3.
Anything else would be a disappointment to basically every fan of Blizzard Entertainment.

Exactly.
If it wasn't D3, Blizzard would have said so right off the bat. They aren't idiots, they know how moronic it would be to string 8 million customers along only to just throw them off a cliff.

The same splash screen is being displayed on http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/
I'm still assuming it's tied to Wrath of the Lich King. The imagery looks too much like the Frozen Throne.
edit:
Although... the new splash looks a lot like a Protoss...
Damnit Blizzard!

^ Llama64:
Just stop looking at the splash screen i was the same way 2 days ago...
Look at the facts that we know:
Diablo 2 was released on June 29th 2000
Diablo 2 LOD was released on June 29th 2001
Diablo 3 will be announced on June 29th 2008
A New Game will Announced at WWI (this means it has nothing to do with WOTLK or SC2)

Maybe they'll release Diablo 3 on Sunday to coincide with this trend. Digital download. Shock the world.

Two other things to fuel the Diablo 3 fire: a couple of months ago Blizzard asked for, and received diablo3.com (formerly a fansite). Also D2 is supposed to start a new ladder this summer, for the first time in years.

Well the new ladder already started and the last reset was just a year ago.

It is common aswell in Blizzard fashion to Announce a game that is in production then release 2 years later. WOTLK will be out this christmas. SC2 will be out next year probably around Blizzcon time (2 years) and Diablo 3 when announced will come out in 2010.
The SC:MMO will come out 2011 or 2012
