Default Good used book stores in Calgary

Hey all. I was wondering if you guys knew of some good used book stores in Calgary. I haven't been on a used book store hunt in 3-4 years and I've now come to realize most of the places I used to frequent have either closed down, or become genealogy places. I'm currently looking for a bunch of out of print books. So any help you guys could give me would be appreciated.

Have you tried Amazon? I have gotten several out of print books from the "used and new" section.

That one is closing down pretty quick, I think. It looks like they are having some sort of clearance sale.

Yeah, that's why I'm resorting to used bookstores around town. Amazon has failed me. That and the States' Amazon new and used section has a greater variety than Canada's in these instances.

Really? I'll have to try and get there this week then. Thanks for the heads up.

I haven't been there in about a year. I knew the owner and i suspect he is having financial problems. His wasn't the best location as there wasn't any free parking.

If true that he is closing, it would be sad. Bought and traded a lot of books there over the years. Great guy to deal with - plus a great selection of used books.

Great, thanks. I'll do that now.

Edit: Oh, he's moving. Downsizing stock. Will be closing down I think he said sometime end of june, but he talks really fast, so I'm not sure.

Did he say where he was moving too?

Did he have the book you wanted?

I was going to ask where he was going when I visited in person. I'll update when I've visited And I didn't bother to ask about specific books as I've got a pretty long list and I figured I could just browse a bit and see what he had when I got there.

Fair's Fair has at least two locations I'm aware of. One on MacLeod and 73rd Ave, and one on Kensington near 10th St.

Tramps is a good place for some used books, I've found.

There is one downtown on 7th Ave, but I can't remember what it's called, or what the cross street was.

G Books in the same strip mall as London Drugs on Heritage and Macleod. As an employer that has a diversified workplace (he was a partner with the non-profit company that I used to work for that supported adults with developmental disablities in their pursuit of competitive employment) That kind of business gets my support!
And he sometimes has really good sales too!

Only if you don't laugh...I'm looking for a bunch of the retro Beverly Cleary novels for a birthday present. I'm also looking for Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia C. Wrede. These are currently number one on my list. Then I'm just looking to stock up my summer reading.

Other than the places mentioned if you are in the SW there is a small used book store in the strip mall close to 33rd ave/Richmond road and 29th street SW. The owner is big on historical fiction, so we get along well.

I dont go north much, but there always were a couple good ones on 16th Ave NW. I know the one guy as you said went heavy into geneaology, but there were two more between say center and 12th I think.

I have an aversion to used books. Sloppy seconds.
