Default How a thief in Memphis ruined my day

My friend and I are heading to Europe on Friday for Euro Cup. We had originally bought tickets off his coworkers best friend in Venezuela for $1400. Ouch. The tickets were for a quarterfinal game in Vienna, which turned out to suck because we were going to be 10 hours away from where we wanted to be that weekend, so we bought tickets to a different quarter in Basel, and I sold our original pair for $1300 on eBay, not bad, only lost $50 a piece.

Until today I found out that FedEx, who was to ship the tickets to the buyer over night "lost" them. The same FedEx who apparently only covers envelopes for $100.

The guy that bought the tickets is screwed with no tickets to that game now, I'm screwed out of $1200.

The best part, is talking to people who have worked with or dealt with these companies all the time, is that apparently they don't lose envelopes. Especially since they are sending me a claim form already, it means they found an empty envelope with a slit in it, and some jerk off read the customs form on my envelope and decided what was inside it should be his.

I'm kicking myself in my own groin right now for not just writing "letter" or "documents" instead of "soccer tickets" on the customs form. That was incredibly stupid, although it's sad that you even have to think about that. $1200 lesson learned. F U Memphis theif.

Can't the initial seller report the tickets stolen like at a Flames game and get them re-printed and sent?

So... um ... is there any way your home insurance can cover such a loss or theft. It is amazing some of the claims I hear getting passed. I am not advocating fraud here, it could at least be worth a phone call to them.

Yes, I have them documented and photographs of the tickets to. I'll be watching eBay hoping to catch this guy if he's stupid enough to put them on there.

I'm hoping that's the case. The only problem is coordinating for a re-print in Europe, and then getting them from the guy in Venezeula to Washington DC on Friday before this guy leaves...

Very interesting idea. I might talk to them and see what they say. I've heard of home insurance covering very odd stuff myself.

Try writing "extension cords," that'll be secure for sure.

I've killed for less. Stealing Euro tickets? Thats a crime punishable by torture until death.

I unfortunately had to cancel my plans to go to Euro, but if I'd had tickets (which are damned expensive) and someone stole them I'd be livid.

If I'm understanding correctly, the culprit would have to be an employee at the FedEx hub in Memphis. If you find ANY trace of the tickets online or in Europe I would be contacting their human resources department immediately.

Thats why I always put a scorpion in my mail, if someone's going to steal something, they're going to have to walk around in severe pain with a hand three times its normal size for their troubles.

Send another envelope labeled "More Soccer Tickets" but fill it with flour and a note that says "Haha! Anthrax, Bizznatch!".

I just got home and checked my way bill. It turns out, I'm smarter than I thought and just have a bad memory. I did in fact write "documents" and put a value of $1, the minimum you are allowed, figuring that's about as unappealing to a thief as you can get. I'm starting to wonder if they legitimately lost them somehow. Would anyone really have time to root through the billions of envelopes they get? At least I don't have to hate myself for being stupid now. And my favorite shirt, which I thought had been bleached by some chemical, came out good as new! And right when that happened the sun peaked out for a moment! Everything is coming up Hulkrogan! (besides the whole minor $1300 detail).

Hahahaha... that would be well worth the $41 to get it to Memphis.
