not complaining. Don't want to be the dirtbag a#@hole that rubs the other teams face in it is all.

I'd much rather play a team on their A-game and take a whupping than beat or barely lose to a team that was half-assing it on the field.
OMG - are we becoming "Softball Guys"?

Play as competitively as you can and (presumably) and beat them even worse?

I think a small handicap with an honest effort is a great solution to the problem.
Thanks. Put like that I can see the logic.

Titan,
We play in a competitive league with a competitive team. One thing we had always done for 9 years was play all players a turn at catcher, not just the ladies. I always thought it was a way to respect the ladies on our team, that we don't assume to put a lady at catcher.

However three years ago a team got all upset about it. This game the rotation just happened to be two guys catching the game, one half each. They, we found out later, thought we were arrogant. They believed that we put guys at catcher to show them up. We had no idea why the game got chippy (yes a slo pitch game can be chippy) they were making comments and trying to start fights.

We found out the next week when another team told me how they were complaining about us. That other team told them we always play guys at catcher.

So, you never know how another team may take your "fun" or "fair" actions.

Hey, you're the one who sees nothing wrong with taking a leadoff walk in softball.

I'll give a perspective from the other side. I joined the lowest rec team when a friend asked me, as they didn't have barely anyone on the team who had ever played sports let alone softball. I get annoyed when there are teams in this division (the lowest rec div) who are really good. We got beat a couple of times this year something stupid like 35-4. Team had no subs, everyone was a quality player.

Don't join the rec division if you know you are going to cream everyone.

I appreciate your wanting to get our opinion, but part of me has this feeling that you're going to your next game... picking you cards... and then saying "But the Softball Guys on CalgaryPuck.com said you shouldn't have a problem with this."

I don't think I've played on a team that was skilled enough to need this form of fielding, but we have played on teams where there's the pro who slams the ball out of plain sight every time he steps to the plate. Always pissed me off.

I think it's a great idea if it's rec, and I don't think I'd be insulted if a team I played against did it to me. I don't understand the concept of being beat bad vs. being beat by a sub effort. Then again, isn't Runs For/Agains usually a tie breaker? Aren't you just hurting yourself?

if they can see you are doing it the entire game then it doesn't matter, its a great idea. I think it should be a rule in tournaments. Then everyone gets to play everywhere, that'd be sweet

That's second base when a girl bats after me!

Actually, I think I'm getting intentionally walked, because of my nuclear power.

HaHa. I would definately not do that. I just wanted to see if I was way off base. (get it?) We don't care about plus/minus or even winning. I just don't want to insult the other team.

Actually I complained (sorta) about teams that complain when a good team tries to not rub it in/ease up.

Your analogy would be more along the likes of the poor people complaining they would rather be poor instead of having the rich people give them some money and be middle class

Honestly, if your team was playing "pick-a-card" and still stomping on my team, I'd get really pissed off, it'd be humiliating. But don't worry about me, I'm actually just a really sore loser. Myself, and others like me, will be upset no matter how you win.

I can admit it.

I'd say a solution to the problem however, would be to ask the other team before every game if both teams should play "pick-a-card". If they think it's a good idea and want to join in then that's great, and if they don't like the idea, they could always say they'd like to just stick to regular positions and for your team to do the same.

Nobody would get upset this way.
