I watched most of this last night.
Very good display by Canada. They actually looked like a well-trained exciting team and attacked constantly. A team we can all be proud of!

Yeah

Passing back from the halfway line is never a good idea. Don't know what he was thinking cause other than that he had a spectacular game.
I'm excited about World Cup qualifying now!

Great to see this thread here - what a game by Canada, too bad it didn't get more media coverage. I agree the World Cup Quals will be something to look forward to if the team keeps playing like this. Felt bad for Julian on the giveaway but he played great the rest of the game and I'd say right now he's probably one of the top 3 players in CONCACAF.. thought Klukowski and Friend had really great games too.. I would rather not see Onstad in net when qualifying starts though, Sutton or Hirschfield are both ahead of him IMO.

Peschisolido left England and was practicing with Toronto FC not too long ago although he hasn't actually joined the team, chances are he'll retire from playing.

Here are some youtube links for some of Canada's best players

Julian de Guzman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZlkFSOdcAA

Dwayne de Rosario: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu95hCdJVXM

Rob Friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmZdUQueCL8

Atiba Hutchison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbHxyeH1Yr0

Tam Nsaliwa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2tkIa8GK_0

Mike Klukowski: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMq5dQL5sxM

I think CAN is hosting MEX OCt 15th in EDM. We should organize a CP road trip.

We should make the Mexicans play in Inuvik in October. They make us play at high altitude in Mexico City.

CSA are idiots. They never ever listen to the players.

The players don't want to go to Edmonton or Vancouver. It makes it a longer trip from Europe (an extra 3-4 hour flight). Plus the field conditions in Edmonton are awful.

They should play in Winnipeg in October.

I can understand both sides to the argument here. Why would the CSA want to limit their exposure to just the East, but at the same time, if the players feel they have a better shot at qualifying by playing in the East, why wouldn't you help them out.

As a fan, I obviously want to see them out here.

I don't like Canada's group for this stage. It's gonna be damn hard to get points out of Mexico in Mexico. And Jamaica aint bad either, they annihalated the Bahamas. Gonna be tough, and Christ, if they get out of this group, they still have to do another group phase. Long process, my gut tells me they are gonna do it this time around.

Anyone know when the schedule comes out or is it already out and I just can't find it??

It's hard to find a schedule. The FIFA site is an absolutely hopeless maze.
It goes something like this.

20 August 2008 - Canada-Jamaica (Toronto)
6 September 2008 - away
10 September 2008 - Canada-Honduras (Montreal)
11 October 2008 - away
15 October 2008 - Canada-Mexico (Edmonton)
19 November 2008 -away

You're right, CONCACAF qualfying is a marathon. 6 games in this round then 10 games in the next. But it's good for us! We get to see more!

While they are idiots, this is a strategy that is a good one, and has been used before.

Mexico is the stronger side on any given day by far, top 2 in the region...but drop the temperatures below 15C in Oct and the long sleeve shirts come out and the whining and complaining begins from the Mexicans and they get somewhat distracted by the conditions.

I know because I've played against Central and SA teams over the years and it was always the case.

Sure, the Canadians coming from Europe may not love it either, but at least they're somewhat used to the weather here.

Same with the muddy or frozen soup that will be the Commenwealth grass that day.

Both of these even the playing field out a little bit more for what would be a crucial game against the top team...true home field advantage.

When Canada goes down to Mexico, they used to not be allowed (at least back in the mid 90's, not sure if things have changed) on the Azteca stadium field in the days leading up to practice, instead the practice facility was barely covered in grass and in a shady area of Mexico City too.

This is just a bump to let everyone know the next round of qualifying starts today for Canada. The game is in Toronto at 5:30 MST. It is shown live on Sportsnet West or Pacific if you have the digital feed. If you only get 1 Sportsnet channel you don't get the game. If you have all 4 Sportsnet channels, you get the game on 1 of them.

Also, Canada is playing Mexico on Oct 15 in Edmonton. We are hoping to get a ton of people out for this game. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Sept 1 but if you want tickets with the Canadian supporters, you can get tickets now.

See the forum on the Voyageurs site for more info.

Canada got a pretty brutal seeding, as far as CONCACAF goes.

Mexico is more than likely going to crush this group, seeing as they have the talent level of a mediocre to solid European squad, but Honduras is considered to be at or beyond Canada's level. Jamaica is also known for being a tough team to play.

It doesn't mean its impossible, but this is probably the toughest possible group they could have been placed in.

The experts are saying if they don't win tonight against Jamaica by a good margin, their odds of getting second place and continuing on are quite low.

Of course, if Canada can't beat Honduras and Jamaica, as well as keep Mexico to a draw or modest loss, they have no business in the World Cup and would be embarassing anyway.

The US and Costa Rica got rather easy groups, I don't expect upsets there. Its too bad Canada didn't get Group C... they'd be a lock for second place with a good goal differential.

I was under the impression that matches have to be played on grass surfaces which is why Edmonton is the stadium of choice. Is BMO stadium in TO grass? Why no play there and then nationally televise it on TSN2

Also, if its directy flights from England the routing isnt that much longer (90 minutes max) because they can take a more polar route). Coming back its longer because of currents but...

A bit extreme but not totally a bad idea.

A European game from a few years back when Tromso (a Norwegian bunch of part-timers from inside the circle) played and beat Chelsea. Check out the conditions at the end of the game.
