Default Ricciardi not interested in signing Bonds

http://www.tsn.ca/ctvnews/?id=238544

Quote:
Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi put to rest any rumours that Barry Bonds may be brought in as the answer to the team's hitting problems.

Ricciardi appeared on TSN's Off The Record on Thursday and host Michael Landsberg asked him if he would consider signing Bonds. Ricciardi's immediate response consisted of one word; "No."

they had that time slot in case there was a game to play in to the semi for the memorial cup.

OK I get that, but since Rogers owns both the team and the station, I figured they would be able to play the Jays game if the Semi Final was scheduled for today.

The only possible reason I can figure this happening logically is if the MLB also needs a large amount of money for a ball game to be on TV, and that they require it at least 48 hours in advance.

I am getting sick of Braves games, I hate that stupid chant.
But in terms of getting his team out there, Mr. Turner is the greater Ted!

Can't you still subcribe to MLB TV on a daily basis on the web?

CG 4 hitter for the doc, Overbay and Rolen were perfect at the plate. Even Rios was 2 for 4. And we saw none of it. Argh!!!!

Wilkerson with a grand slam off a great at-bat to give the Jays a 4-0 in the 1st.

No chance that Jason Bay will be traded by the Pirates and no chance in hell if they did it would be for prospects. Bay is an amazing talent who is the cornerstone of that team, landing Bay is a wet dream for Jay fans but that at this time in his career is all it will ever be.

masterful game by Litsch. Sets the all time record for innings by a Blue jay without a walk at 38 2/3. Another CG gives the bullpen a nice rest. 6-0 Jays final.

Nice effort by Litsch today to get that illusive complete game finally. The Jays are certainly getting great pitching from Marcum and Litsch at the backend of the rotation. The offence is slowly starting to produce here maybe they can put together a good stretch here. The good news so far is that no one has really blazed ahead in that Wild Card and they're now only 2 wins behind Tampa Bay of all teams leading it.

On the other side of the coin ... isn't Jason Bay a free agent this year? I haven't been following other teams so well these days but I do know he struggled mightily last season. The Pirates probably aren't going anywhere this year so a trade like that might be something they'd consider - especially if he told them something like "there's no way I'll re-sign back here".

Bay signed a 4 year contract in the 2005 offseason that goes to the end of next season. He's not hitting great, but still has a .273 average, 398 OBP, 521 Slg% and 11 home runs on the season. Mind you thats in a pretty hitter friendly NL Central so far.

Ah ... thought he was a free agent after this season because I do remember a lot of talk of the Pirates unloading him after last season ... .273 isn't bad at all, and that slugging percentage is quite nice. Don't really think the Jays have the prospect depth to acquire him in that way, were he available.
