It's funny only in the sense that how random is it to get hit by a helicopter falling out of the sky. Thats one of those 1 in a million kinda things

I'm glad I live in Canada where I'm allowed to debate (in a non-violent manner)my beliefs or in this thread: Boblobla is allowed to voice what he thinks is funny. I don't agree with him that it's funny, but I'm not freaking out on him. "To each his own"
(It does sound a bit like a Monty Python skit where someone is walking in a huge empty field and all of a sudden a giant foot comes from out of the sky and steps on him)

Agreed. It's not like I was in hysterics rolling around on the floor printing of pictures so I could look at them later. I saw it and thought 'Haha, man, that sucks'.

I do feel for his family, it would be terrible to lose a son who was at school in a different country.

I was just being honest about how I felt like Puxlut said.

Personally I don't really understand the humour of it. I have a pretty messed up sense of humour as well, but I don't get how the odds factor into anything.

It would be astronomically bad luck to be killed by a meteorite

I just looked over and this story is on the cover of the today’s Herald I don’t find the humor in this at all

A young man who is from another country and schooling in Canada is killed

Maybe the manner in which he died is odd but hardly something to poke fun at

Did you laugh when that women was killed by a falling tree a month ago?

Probably.

Was it in the forest and did anyone hear it?

Yes the two young boys she was caring for at the time

Does that just add to the hilarity?

I too love living in a country where I can call you a buffoon for laughing at this.

This thread is achieving more than I ever hoped it would. I thought it would get maybe one or two responses but this is great. It is helping me kill an afternoon (no pun intended...)

Thanks.

WOW! Have you read anything I have written?
Let me put this simply so you can understand:
a)I never said that I personally laughed at this.
b)Yes. It is a sad thing.
c)Everyone started freaking on him so:
d)I tried to see it from his perspective and in turn, try to educate others to understand where he may be coming from.
e)Everyone has a different way of reacting/dealing with situations.

It's sad that you would have to resort to calling me names instead of having an intelligent/civilized debate.

Thank you for your understanding

I lol'd at that.

I don't get how so many people here can't separate the idea of laughing because somebody died versus laughing at the circumstances of somebodies death. Sure it's not funny that somebody died, but the idea that some poor sucker traveled across the globe to get smoked by the falling wreckage of an exploded helicopter while walking down the street is worth at least a chuckle.

I don't really find it funny.

My wife and I, along with our extended families, had a pretty rough year a few years back, where we had to mourn 7 separate deaths. Most of them were close family and friends, and one of them a suicide. It got to the point where laughing at death was one of the only coping mechanisms that worked anymore. I am sure some onlookers would have thought we were morbid, classless folks, but really it was just our way of dealing.

I agree with the poster noting there is a difference between laughing at the fact someone dies, and laughing at the circumstances of someones death. If there wasn't, then anyone laughing at the Darwin Awards is damned, even if the deaths are self induced. Chuckling to yourself, and identifying the odds around the enormously bad luck surrounding an unfortunate and tragic death is not a ticket to hell IMO.
