Honestly, screw flying American and Cdn flag.
Fly one Flames flag and get one with a printed picture of Sutter on it.

That would be grand indeed. Believe it or not, I work with a guy who looks a hell of a lot like Darryl Sutter. You'd do a double take if you ran into this guy somewhere, there is that much resemblance.

As an offshoot of this topic, when I was in Seattle two summers ago, I found myself in a rather upscale, beachfront neighborhood across the bay from Seattle Harbour as I was looking for a good shot of downtown. In that neighborhood especially (and in many other communities I've seen in the states) virtually every single house had an American Flag hanging from the front of their houses.
Personally, I couldnt help but to laugh to myself, as it did not come off as being truely patriotic, but rather an entire neighborhood looking at their neighbor and thinking "I had better fly the flag or I will look out of place." It struck me as being false patriotism.

So cynical :P
Actually you will find that in many neighborhoods in cities all across the US.
Especially 2 summers ago.
But even now, some neighborhoods will have nearly all the homes flying a flag for a soldier that is from the neighborhood but currently deployed overseas. No matter whether the occupants of the homes are supporters of the war in Iraq or not, they are supporters of their former neighbor and will fly a flag in his honor.
Another thing we Americans seem to do, around here anyway, is tie yellow ribbons around trees and whatever else is handy to support the troops we have overseas.

I'm basically looking into putting up 2 flag mounts, one on either side of my garage door. The thing is, I want quality equipment that is going to last. Has anyone done this and do you have any suggestions?
Have already priced several flags and they are extremely affordable. Can't wait to get them flying for various occasions or just my standard everyday scheme I have in mind.

PERSONALLY, I'm not a fan of flying flags. I think it looks kinda tacky and I don't see the need for such a bold statement. A small flag in your house? Sure, but I don't understand the need to put up flags outside.
I have a different feeling of nationalism and patriotism than most people though. I don't agree with removing my hat for the national anthem because I don't feel that it's necessary to show to everybody that I'm grateful and happy to live in this country, even though I am...I also don't like the religious connotations associated with removing a hat.
I don't think national anthems should be played in sports, unless they're international events. If Calgary and Edmonton are playing, I don't really see the need to have the national anthem. I think it's beautiful to see two major pro Canadian teams playing, so why is it necessary to embellish the symbolism by trumpeting the anthem before the game. I am perfectly happy to quietly observe two teams go at it without a nationalist even to precede it.
That said, I think I'm extremely lucky to live in Canada and I'm very grateful for that, but I don't see the need to show off every chance I get. I don't like seeing anybody flaunt what or who they are, and I don't think patriotism should be any different.

notoepik - That is kind of my point. Obviously in 2003, 9-11 was still fresh in everybodies minds. It strikes me as people being conditioned to act a certian way, or else face scrutiny from others.
Whenever I think of that, I always have an old phrase running through my head: "I am an individual, just like everybody else."

Ha, well could be snakeeye, but they could also just be showing support for the people they know are in harms way. And the loved ones left behind who appreciate the support they see in the flying of the flag.
It is sort of like funerals. I mean why bother going, the dead person is dead. They won't know if you are there or not.

I didn't realize I was breaking these rules.
I have a Canadian flag and a Flames flag adorning the side of my wall which is visible from the street sidewalk. And I have the Canadian flag facing the wrong way apparently (The two flags hang vertically). And the two flags are equal in visible "stature" which is a no-no.
Oh well, I don't think it REALLY matters.
