Just Thought I'd throw a heads up to anyone who's intrested in the construction of Encana's new tower, Starting tommorrow night there is Canada's longest continous concrete pour starting and lasting sometime until Sunday morning. Going to use somewhere close to 14,000 cubic metres of concrete, and 13 concrete pumps will be used. 4 concrete plants and over a hundred truck running continously, should be quite a sight.

The pour should start around 8pm in the evening on friday night, go all day saturday and into Sunday morning hopefully ending around 8 am if everything goes according to plan, 6th ave on both sides will be shut down, you might get and decent look at it from 7th ave and Centre street. If you could be in telus's building somehow that would be the best place I could think of.

I'm guessing longest continuest poor of this type (ie slab). Also probably more poured per hour than most continuous pours.

Apparently the Bow is going to have some changes to the plans to it's interior look and won't look as open as it did before with all those skypods. It's going to have a bunch of normal buildings levels.

15,000 m³ is an impressive number.

My company does oilfield cementing, and for us, a 100 m³ job is huge, as big as they come. A typical mixing/pumping rate would be 1.0 m³/min, meaning it would take over 10 days for us to do this job, assuming one pump, which is obviously an assinine assumption. The scale of this is just plain big. Lafarge or Inland or both must be salivating.

I will try to stay away from the area as I imagine it will mean lane closures and chaos. Although come to think of it, I have the Mother's Day run to attend. Hopefully things will be sort of normal by then.

But as far as the construction of the tower goes, I want my 6th Avenue back!!

The Main Raft slab is being poured, which will basicly support the load of the building, as concrete pours go this is massive, 100m3 pours are going all over the city every day and sometimes take hours to complete, depending on rate of pour. I think the rate for this is going to be pushing 450-500 m3/hr, which mean a truck loads somewhere every 5 minutes at four concrete plants over the city, Factor in drive times and Saturday traffic, I think the 6th ave bridge is on schedule, but this pour is contingent on 6th ave opeing.

Sucks.

There will still be a few 6 story open chunks, but nothing like it was going to be. If they would have been allowed to build to 68 floors like they wanted to, this probably wouldn't have been necessary. All because our city refuses to make an exception for our shadowing by-laws, even for a building such as this.

Sucks indeed.
