Devotchka just came out with A Mad and Faithful Telling. Just listened to it in full, very cool, not sure if it's as good as their previous album, Curse Your Little Heart, but never the less, people should check this one out.

The new REM record has not impressed me as much as the first single did, but I think it will grow on further listens.

I am totally blown away on first listen by the Vampire Weekend CD:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...jfoxz9hldje~T1

culture collision of indie-, chamber-, and Afro-pop they call "Upper West Side Soweto"

Fully realized debut albums like Vampire Weekend come along once in a great while, and these songs show that this band is smart, but not too smart for their own good.

that's funny, I had the exact opposite reaction. I thought it was horrible and it's success was totally the product of blogosphere hype. Maybe I should give it a 2nd chance...

It seems like a CD that everyone can enjoy - your parent's, your friends, your teenage siblings etc. Catchy as hell, breezy pop music - but I'm a sucker for the bright afro-guitar sounds.

Actually, Troutman, the Vampire Weekend cd is growing on me. At the very least, I'm glad I gave it a few more listens.

M83 also released his new one today: 'Saturdays = Youth' to little press. Picked it up but haven't listened to it yet. His last one was fantastic.

I also got Frightened Rabbit's 'The Midnight Organ Fight' based purely on a review I read. I like that whole UK indie rock vibe, though these guys seem a little more beholden to the American than the English scene. Don't know though, as I'm totally new to them. Should be good...

Pretty much my favorite band out there right now is releasing their new album today.

Ours - Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy

Produced by Rick Rubin.

Out May 20th - the best band ever - King's X "XV"

I've been listening to a leaked copy and it's their best, IMO, since Ear Candy.

I have to laugh every time a fan reminds me "it's King's Ex, not King's Cross"!

I think the whole King's Cross is due to the previous, uh, "spiritual" ties they once had. Friggin' X-tians...

Either way though they are incredible musicians who do what they do because they love the music as they obviously aren't going to make the "big time" any time soon.

Didn't like it at all. Its funny that bands like these guys and MGMT can get so much press for so little. The internet is truly ruining music. Now any group of pretentious geeks can suddenly become a "great band".

The opposite is true also. Potentially "legitimate" great bands that can't get signed by a record label are getting the exposure they need as well. It's your choice who you listen to, only now, you have more choices. Not a bad thing IMO.

I'll tell you how the internet is ruining music. As soon as a gifted band finds any measure of popular success, the snobs turn their backs on them.

I'm not worried about being cool. I could snob it up with the best of them. Sorry you didn't enjoy this record (if you honestly gave it a listen), but I think it is the most refreshing release of the year so far.

New Coldplay album coming out in July I believe, with the single available for free download within the next 24 hours. I know people here detest them, but I really like them and am looking forward to this album as they always seem to come out with some good stuff.

sure has... 11 years since their last studio record. And only their 3rd studio album to date.

I will always have a soft spot for them. Their first 'Dummy' was remarkable and opened up a whole new understanding of music to me... cinematic, dark, creepy... yet strangely comforting. I'm looking forward to see what they put out tomorrow.
