Default Alberta budget comes down

The budget came down today in Edmonton. Mostly a bit of a non event except:

-The health care premium/tax is finally going to be killed, as of Jan 1 2009. The tax I have always hated in this province is finally gone!

More details here:

Wow. Jan 1 2009? I'm impressed. During the election he promised 'within 4 years'. WTG, Ed. You've temporarily bought my vote.

Good riddance! I always hated seeing that as a seperate line item on my paycheque, and as a young-un it got me into some trouble with collection agencies.

Better to get rid of that as opposed to another provincial tax cut.

Bingo...will you see a raise...nope. Woohoo elimination of a non-taxable perk, saves your employer I guess. A 1% tax decrease would have been more beneficial to me and many others.

Yep, me too. I only recently started paying it on time, usually I would wait until they started calling and then pay it.

Great news.

It is a taxable benifit so you will save on that.

The health care premium has been the biggest joke in this province for far too long. Good to see they are finally doing away with it. I give some credit to the CTF who have been a voice on this matter for a long time now. Good victory for them.
