I wouldn't call the comments in the OP racist so much as I would call them rude or disrespectful.

Are you saying that have large families and hunting is akin to living in the projects and selling crack?

No.
Rougeunderoos is saying that the stereotype that all black youth sell drugs and live in housing projects is akin to the stereotype that all native women irresponsibly reproduce and don't take care of their children. And that in both instances neither stereotype has much to do with anything about being a professional hockey player which were the contexts of the comments.
from the 1st post by sclitheroe: "But then, the guy goes on the say something to the effect of how native women just pop out kids, and let them run wild clubbing baby seals, "or whatever it is they do up there". Kerr suggests he shouldn't be talking like that, and the guy replies that he doesn't care, and go ahead and "sue me"."
How would Flames fans feel if something like this happened to Iginla? Well, as long as it was a joke, it'd be great, right? I mean, every joke has a race-related punchline, and we can't let the politically correct outlaw humour in its entirety, can we?

Ok. I'm just going to agree to disagree. I really don't see the big deal here. Mixing a little racial humour into a spiel never hurt my feelings. I've been called a pasta eater and a jesus killer and everything in between. I guess my skin is just a bit thicker. Must be all that working in the coal mines.

HEY HOLD ON A MINUTE!! I'm of Scottish descent, and I am totally outraged by the fact you tell jokes about Scots f'ing goats! It's a completely false stereotype
Most of us are too cheap to buy goats.

As for the whole "I hate PC, everyone takes offense too easy" theme we've heard, I agree to some extent, but let's turn scenario this around a bit.
Say we all catch wind of a couple sportscasters in Nashville talking about Our Local Hero And Captain and one of them casually mentions that Jarome grew up in a housing project selling crack, because that's what black kids do.

Personally if it was done in the same manner as it was on Friday I wouldn't care at all.
And if it was done with a racist intent I probably wouldn't care too much either.
Whats the point in getting up in arms about what dome dope in NAshville thinks about Blacks or Iginla?

Dean Molberg is a typical dumb Norwegian whose brain has been damaged by eating lye-soaked fish that resembles cow phlegm. Plus he's from Red Deer, a well known haven for insensitive rednecks.

As a Norwegian descendant, I take offense to this. Lutefisk looks nothing like cow phlegm...it's much worse.
On a serious note, well maybe not, I was LITERALLY called a "cracker" a couple months ago because I had to throw out a young black kid from my establishment because he had no ID. Yup..I am "cracker" man now. I did ask for clarification from him though...you know...Saltine? Ritz? Uncle? Tricuit?....he mumbled something about coming back "with his peeps" as he walked away. I was quite literally laughing about that.

He didn't say they have large families and enjoy hunting, he said (apparently) that the women pop out a bunch of babies and the kids run wild, clubbing seals over the head.
You know as well as I do that there is a difference.
I'm pretty sure that this Boomer character knows as much about Rankin Inlet as I do, which is nothing. I don't know if Jordin Tootoo has ever even seen a seal, let alone clubbed one on the head when he was a child. The suggestion that the guy might have too many brothers and sisters in his family is also a little, shall we say, "insensitive".

Oh, believe you me, you're worse than a "cracker." You're one o' them "Lefses." At least a cultivated grain product is made by a civilized people. Well, guess what? Lefse flatbread is potato. Harvested by rooting up from the ground by snouted animals.
Damn Norwegians.
Even worse, you're a feller from Canada. That makes you a "Frostback."
Well, I can see why folks jes' naturally make assumptions about your kind!!!!!1

Hey not to Derail this, but does Richards still do "Gay or not Gay" ?
I used to listen and laugh at that actually, till one day I think they could have been talking about me--a caller basically described to a 'T' what my bf at the time and I did at a previous game to celebrate goals, etc (no PDAs or anything). That didn't bother me actually, but I wrote to the station because I didn't like when Richards said right after that gay people shouldn't go to the 'dome for games and that we should just stay home. I thought that crossed the line.
Basically, I never thought the segment itself was bad because it was done in fun with no malice--hey I try to play spot the Q**** myself when out and about--but when they say things like "stay home", I couldn't let that one slide. I guess the offensive part was the fact they were implying that you have to be straight to go to a Flames game. Probably not something the official home of the Flames wants to get out there.
I haven't listened to the show since.

Well, the surname literally means "mountain of indigenous rodents" in that gutteral coughing they (Norwegians) call a "language."

I think an educated bigot would say that Iginla runs a lottery scam or kidnaps foreign oil workers rather than selling drugs and living in the projects.
I guess it's all free speech to people until someone hits their sore spot. In Calgary, you can call me a cracker and make European jokes all you want--I won't be offended. But if I lived in a majority black city, where blacks control literally everything, that "cracker" would sound a hell of a lot different.

sort of. actually what happens is that if it's a windy day out, our kilts fly up lots, and it can really look as if we're f'ing the goats while trying to lift them over the fence. It's pure coincidence that we always give up on it after a few minutes, and the relieved sigh after we put them down is just from not having that weight to lift anymore, nothing else.
