We're not debating whether this is intellectual comedy or not. I can't stand the guy either. But just turn on Air Farce one day and see them make fun of Calgarians. It's just so 'last century' to pull out the f'n race card all the time.

Yeah, I did an English impression the other day, was trying to impersonate my dad. Limey s, I hate them!

I agree to a point but in some cases racism is still racism. Its not always pulling out the race card...sometimes its legit.

This particular point of contention really grinds my gears! I remember watching the Dave Chapelle Show's pilot episode, and the very first skit is the story of the "blind, black white-supremacist". For those who haven't seen, please go watch it because it is hilarious!
Actually, everything about that show was a prime example of racial humor at its finest. He goes after everybody with every stereo-type he can think of. I mean, the crack-addict on Fear Factor...hell, its brilliant.
But if it was a white guy trying any of this he would be lynched (how ironic hey?). Remember when the owner of the Atlanta Falcons made a joke about Michael Vick and fried chicken in jail? There were two very distinct waves of responders:
Wave one, outraged blacks slamming the Falcon's owner for being a racist pig, yaddayaddayadda....
Wave two, outraged blacks slamming the other blacks who played the race card.
Which wave are you on?

I think what happened on the Fan here, if true, is racist. And before you give me some nonsense about how it's just relaying truth, think for a minute.
Sure some aboriginal people may have lots of kids or engage in the seal hunt. That's not the point. Not all aboriginal people fit those stereotypes. So what about those aboriginals who support PETA? Are they less aboriginal? More importantly, what is the point of bringing the reproductive rates of aboriginal peoples or the seal hunt in this context? And why do they have to be evoked with that kind of denigrating rhetoric? What on earth does it have to do with Jordan Tootoo's age? If I understand sclitheroe correctly, these stereotypes were invoked to denigrate a minority group. For no reason other than entertainment.

HO HO HOLD ON! How the hell did I over look this gem?
Have I not made my opinion crystal clear? What are you going on about, fatso? "Man up and say it?" Re-read my posts, junior. I think I've stated my case.
Now I must run and hide before I get in crap for calling fatso 'fatso'.

I think it's okay for anyone to make fun of any other person or group - so long as they do it with some love. The whole idea that you can only make fun of certain groups, or your own group, or use certain words but not others based on your race, is a heap of crap. Frankly, I blame the Germans for it.
Stupid Germans.
Edit: Here's a good example of effective racist joking from a leading expert on the subject. If you spread the damage widely enough, everyone wins.

On the show yesterday, they weren't making those stereotypes, they were making fun of those stereotypes.

They want some controversy so he drags out some 300 year old stereotype?
What's he going to treat us to next week, the miracle invention of ventriloquism?
Maybe they should try to generate some controversy by having unique or controversial views on something related to sports. On the other hand, we have a couple guys in town already doing the "say anything, so long as it's negative and unpopular" routine and we don't need another one.

Thanks, I didn't realize that. As I said, *if* I understood the OP correctly, I thought the whole exchange was pretty bush league but also surprising for those guys.

I dunno, I didn't hear Kerr laughing or jumping on board with the comment. He flatly said "I don't think you should be talking like that", and moved on rather quickly.
Like I said, normally, I just ignore stuff like that, but my stomach kinda sank when I heard it. Maybe it was sarcasm/irony, and I completely missed it, but I don't think so. I have a neighbor who is also a friend that is Inuit, and I sure as heck wouldn't suggest that her kids and mine go out and club some seals on the weekend. Sarcastic or not, you shouldn't be perpetuating negative stereotypes.

That's sort of a test right there. Would this Boomer guy have made this crack if Tootoo was in the room? I seriously doubt it, and not just because he'd probably his ass kicked, but because he knew it was offensive.
As for the whole "I hate PC, everyone takes offense too easy" theme we've heard, I agree to some extent, but let's turn scenario this around a bit.
Say we all catch wind of a couple sportscasters in Nashville talking about Our Local Hero And Captain and one of them casually mentions that Jarome grew up in a housing project selling crack, because that's what black kids do.
How funny (or harmless) would we think that is?

I heard this on Friday as well, and while I didn't think he made an outright racist comment, I thought he made a poor choice given his position and that he is supposed to be a professional. I know, I know, not much of anything the fan does is professional, but this tit should know better.
I think its hard to judge Boomer and say "oh man, this guy is a racist " because to me, racism is not a word, catch phrase, or imitating an accent. It's a feeling, plain and simple.
