Well I never hated cowboys as much as I think many did...I did hate coyotes, which to me was always simply a much lamer, cowboys jr.
I hope that they are renovating coyotes a whole bunch (read: making it bigger) if they're going to do this right.

I'm in Arriva and I'm pumped to hear that the crapheap that was Coyotes is going to be the icon that was Cowboys!
However I feel like I may be the minority view in the building!

Calgary needs nightlife, and whether people liked it or not, Cowboys was iconic in stature and was a mainstay for many celebrities and athletes.
Personally, I'm glad it is re-opening, although I just don't think it will be the same. This is a gamble by Penny Lane, but hopefully it works out for them. I always liked Cowboys, especially since I got to hang out with most of the Flames one night there.

What about the non-shallow people that go to look at the hot shallow people? There must be a place for them!
It is a smaller location though, sure will make it much tougher to get in if you don't have the connections. However they have plenty of empty land around to temporarily expand during Stampede.
Really when you think about it, this could help be part of the catalyst for what the Stampede wants to do to all of the 4th street stretch. Having restaraunts, pubs, retail, the hotel and the casino all in the same area. Mix in all the residential being built up around it and a very nice community could form. I for one welcome having a mix of daytime and nighttime venues, I don't want my streets dead past 5pm!

They were appealing the city's decision to not allow them to take over the old Office Depot on 4th Ave and 5th Street and that was going on today.. I wonder if they lost.

Back on topic I could care less that Cowboys is coming back. That place was popular by name only, in reality it was a dumpy club with trashy clientèle IMO.

You misunderstand me. Shallow people are not hot. Even if they are beautiful.

I ask people what I should do or check out while in Calgary and they tell me about Cowboys and how I will like it and have a good time. But now, more often than not, I am hearing people say it's trashy and for trashy people. So, I suppose I should be offended by this suggestion...

Ah, that's too bad, I was hoping Cowboys would take over the Office Depot across the road from my office building, just to see how it would freak out the property managers and maintenance folks. Plus I would have spent all of Stampede hanging out across the road.
When I noticed a couple of weeks ago that Coyotes was shut down for maintenance, I had a feeling this would be the outcome.

Coyotes closing? AWESOME
Always hated Coyotes, never had a good time there.
Not a huge Cowboys fan either, but it's an improvement over Coyotes IMO.

Thats bs, iconic? Cowboys is a low class, tastless hole, I want that to be a city landmark like I want Bertuzzi to be the face of sportsmanship!

Ha ha, oh I'll bet you are the minority.

I'm not sure why everyone hates it so much. Speaking for myself, I don't like it because I don't like clubs. But it's on par with the majority of clubs in town. Plus I bet most of the people that hate it, haven't been to the place in the last decade. People exaggerate about how bad it is. Just look at this thread, you would think that Cowboys beat up their dad, spat on their mom and stole their trike.

No, everyone hates it because of what goes on down there. I've been there a few times and have seen bouncers go way beyond necessary force to handle people, and I've heard of many more incidents. Weather or not true the reputation of that place is not something this city should not be proud of.
