Roomie tells me he got Sourdough bread at Subway in San Francisco.

How yummy would that be?

Up here we get the stupid "monkey's sub" commercials...

Lost in this discussion is the fact that US subs are also way bigger than the Canadian versions. However, I'm not really complaining as Americans are also chubbier than Canadians.

I prefer Mr. Sub, the bread is so much fresher than Subway.

Still think Peppino's in Kensington offers the best sub sandwich in Calgary. It's nothing fancy, just very very fresh, which is what's most important in a good sandwich. Plus it's a family owned place with really nice staff...something that i try to support as much as possible over any chain.

Seems like a good deal, but I still won't bite.

A few years ago Subway changed their bread. They stopped doing the signature top cut and just sliced it down the middle. And the bread itself got all stale (even the freshly baked stuff). Whatever the change was, it's gross. I can't justify spending an average of 8$ on a meal from Subway when most of it is garbage.

They used to be really good. It's quite a shame actually.

I didn't realize it either until I ordered a footlong down there, and was stuffed after struggling to get through it.
