Where can a guy download MP3's from? It seems things change every few months.

Someone told me to go on Mirc, any help on how?

Do those pay-per-song services still cost around a dollar per song?

I don't like spyware and I'm leery of a lot of these file sharing programs because of the adware they have on them.

If you want a legit site, Puretracks is what I use. It's a Canadian site, so you pay in CDN$'s and support the Canadian music industry.

Tell 'em Mike F sent you and you'll get most songs for $0.99, and the downloads are super fast.

I'm not opposed to paying per song, but $1 per song is still too high. Once they get it down to the less than 50 cent per song price I might come on board.

The way the law is in Canada right now, as long as you're only downloading for personal use (ie not selling your compilations or passing them on to someone else) then you can download music off the internet, anywhere off the internet, legally. The Canadian Recording Industry Association is doing their best to follow in the RIAA's footsteps but right now they've been pretty unsuccessful. I say so long as s. 80 of the Copyright Act has been interpreted as it has, download music to your little heart's content.

Are you kidding me? There is no way I could afford to pay 1 dollar per song. A lot of the time I download songs to check a band out, A LOT of those times, the band isn't all that good. I still buy cd's from bands I download but only if that cd is worth buying. I used to buy at least a cd a week (From the time I was 14 till I started University) and so many times I listened to that cd one time and forgot about it because it was terrible. Now I have the ability to hear the cd and if its good, I'll buy it, I'll go to their shows, I'll buy their merch, I have no problem supporting a band I like. I still buy cd's just not as frequently as I used to mostly because I don't have the cash though..

There are a couple decent file sharing places out there.. Clarkey maybe you should PM me and I can tell you about some legit places to download music.

I use iTunes. I get the song I want by previewing it first, and I don't get viruses or spyware.

http://www.allofmp3.com/ is probably the cheapest place to actually buy MP3's, waaay less than $1 per song. Plus you can choose the file format and quality you want to download at.

A recent court decision for them decided that while what they're doing goes against the spirit of Russian law, it's not technically illegal (actually they can't prosecute them) so for now it's allowed. (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?s...37212&from=rss)

But as was pointed out Canadian law basically allows for sharing of music at this time.

For that price you can buy the cd at a store and get the packaging, lyrics, pressed disc etc. and a lossless copy of the music.

Why would anyone pay a buck a song for crap sounding, lossy mp3 files? I don't even download those things for free.

Compared to free, a dollar is an astounding rip off. This is like charging me for air, when all I have to do is take a breath.

Its too easy to get free music still to expect people to fork out cash. And, if an earlier post is correct, file-sharing is still totally legal in Canada, so I don't see the issue. I use eMule, you can get it at download,com.

pure tracks are .wma's - so can be easily burned onto a CD, turned into mp3, etc (but there is some copy protection)

I second this recommendation. AT $0.02 / MB, depending upon the format you could get songs for under $0.10 a piece, or an entire album for over a dollar.

They've got a great interface with the allofmp3 explorer and a huge selection. You can sample everything on all the albums (albeit in a highly compressed format).

If you're buying stuff that's available on allofmp3.com anywhere else, you're making a mistake.

Everybody has a price that they are willing to pay, mine is lower than yours, that's all.

If the price was $15 dollars a song would you go without music? What if it cost you $100 a song but there was a way to get them for free, would you still be sitting on your moral high horse?

Most of the music that I listen to regularly I have bought the cd's for. Granted I buy them used because new cd's are priced above what I'm willing to pay.
