I did talk to my ISP yesterday, and they said according to what they can see....there is a problem with Qwest equipment, or one of their routing tables.

I also contacted the guys who host the server where I'm connecting too, and they said they'll try to pressure their upstream provider to do something.

Qwest has hung up on me 3 more times today.....apparently they don't give a crap if someone is wrong with them, but, well....I'm not a paying customer.

Takes a stupid online chat conversation to get them to do something about it.

And now I find out that there IS a problem with the Qwest backbone. But I need to get my ISP to tell them to look at it.

Just great.

At least I got something more out of them.

Bell has started shaping, and their downstream ISPs are NOT happy campers.

I saw that story on the news as well, I as talking more cross border types. There was an interview on one of the evening newscasts - CTV or Global I think.

Example, Verizon and Telus have always had a friendly relationship. I think Verizon owns a large chunk of Telus or at one time did. What would be really evil is if Verizon started to shape traffic from say Shaw but not Telus. I dont think its currently illegal to do so.

My personal opinion of shaping is that the ISP's should have every right to rightsize traffic durring times of high bw use. Its no different than 10th street bridge going to 3 lanes one way durring morning rush hour and 3 the other way durring evening. I think DSL companies have a harder time explaining that to customers than cable simply because of the selling points of a guaranteed measured speed minimum.

I personally wouldnt lay your hopes on this person.

Normally up the chain in IT means that it goes directly into the deleted items folder. Unless there is wide customer affecting area then the Lev2 Wan support will file it and ignore it.

Also remember, that its alot easier to blow smoke up someones ass in a chat or email than it its actually talking to the person.

The best is to get the host account to lodge the complaint. They are the ones paying qwest and using their service.

I did that and got a response too.

Hopefully they do something about it.

So I talked to the guys who host the destination server, and they said there is a problem, and they would open a support ticket for me, but can't because they have no connection to Bell Canada.

Does that mean the problem could be with Bell?

No, I don't see it being Bell's issue at all. You are just being given the run around because technically, there is nothing wrong with the services because they meet/exceed the current industry standards (not written by the way). It's not worth their time and effort to make one person happy.
