The "reward" for the winner of the 1-2 game is a bye to the finals, which is huge. The fact that it's Canada that they keep facing should not factor into anything.

The page system has been used in Canada for quite awhile the World's also grabed the system as it makes sense.
Its not dumb, both China and Canada went through the round robin with two loses.
They deserved a second chance if they lose the 1-2 game. It that was not the system why would China and Canada play in the semi-finals?

they wouldn't. that's the point. once again, my issue here is that china will probably lose today giving them a 2-1 record against the champion. that's dumb.

Actually, it's a 1-1 record, since I don't think you can take the round robin into account. If you did, then almost every system could be considered dumb, since a team could get blanked in regular season and win a single game in the post-season.

Good match, china made mistakes today that they didn't make on friday.
Good showing though they should be proud.

China was not aggressive like they were in the round robin.

Ummm...I think you gotta blame the skip on that one, not the playoff system. I believe the tie breaker is a draw to the button.

exactly, so the page system rewards the team who can draw closest to the button on a one shot deal...good lord, it's a bonspiel, not a draw to the button contest.

No, the page system rewards the top 2 teams; it's the curling association that determine that a draw to the button will determine the top seeds in the case of a tie. Your getting the two mixed up. And besides, a skip with good sweepers should be able to draw to the 4 foot on command. Maybe they deserve to be third seed.

China didn't have to beat Canada three times to win the championship, they had to beat them once...in the final...they didn't.
The round robin is, and should be, a huge part of the tournament. The only way to emphasize that is with the page system.

Okay here is a link. As the Link mentioned each team was 1-1 (i.e. Canada beat the Swiss, China Beat Canada, Swiss beat China)
The second tie breaker is the draw to the button.... Which was a pre-event challenge and every team is aware of the rules.
http://www.worldcurling.org/content/view/362/85/
"Since each team was 1-1 within the group in round-robin play, the pre-event Draw Shot Challenge results were used for playoff seeding purposes. China, ranked first, will play Canada (second) in the Page playoff "1 versus 2" match Friday evening, with the winner advancing to Sunday's final. Switzerland (third) meets the winner of Friday's morning's tiebreaker between Japan's Moe Meguro and Denmark's Angelina Jensen (both 7-4) in the Page playoff "3 versus 4" match Friday afternoon."

Gotta respect the man's opinion.
ricoFlame, can you think of a better way to put high emphasis on the round robin portion of any major sporting event with 10 teams/competitors?

I can answer this.
First place team in the round-robin goes straight to the final. 2nd and 3rd play in a "semi-final".
Why do we need this 1 v 2 and 3 v 4 page business for?
