Yeesh.... I heard a lot of nightmare stories about Jets go during Christmas.... simple delays put crews over their max hour limits and delayed flight for hours....they just didn't have enough resources available.....

As of now they're ceasing all operations.

Jetsgo, one of the country's upstart discount airlines, announced just after midnight Friday that it will stop all operations immediately.

Passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements as there will be no aircraft or staff available. Travellers looking to return from a trip must also book with other airlines.

Grounded!

Hopefully nobody here had flights booked with them..... I'll bet you there's a lot of stranded Brier fans and Mounties....

'bout dang time, Jetsgo are the biggest bunch of crooks around...I'm glad the only time I flew with them was when they first started and the major problems weren't there yet...

Phew - I was planning on trying to get a loonie + return flight with them in the summer to Toronto - glad I didn't make that mistake.

Air Canada is apparently negotiating with JetsGo to pick up the pieces and honor some of the tickets. Same deal when Canadian Airlines picked up Greyhound Air (remember them?) after they crapped the bed.

Good luck to those who hold $500 bookmarks. :crap:

I also heard Westjet is trying to honor some tickets aswell. Sure feel bad for those who are left stranded with no help whatsoever.

This morning I heard that Air Canada would not be honouring Jetsgo tickets.

So, basically, if you have a Jetsgo ticket it is now worthless.

Westjet is still considering honouring the tickets.

That was a close one ... my brother flew back to school a week ago today on jetsgo... that would have sucked

I heard on the radio this morning that Air Canada and west jet will try and help stranded passangers get on flights but they will NOT honor tickets or sell tickets at the same price as jetsgo

If you have stock in Westjet it's up quite a bit this morning so now might be a good time to get out, wait for it to go back down after this spike, and buy back in

I know of some people that Just flew in from Toronto on some deal where the return flight costs just a couple dollars. So now if they do get a refund, its for a couple bucks, and they paid through the nose for the one way.

... I wonder if that was planned...

Some woman was just on Rutherford and said her family had tried booking a flight in August with JetsGo but those flights were 'unavilable'. But she was able to book a earlier flight with the 1 dollar deal. I think it is a bit suspecious.

I had a flight booked for May and I felt pretty sorry for myself for losing $500 until I saw some of the stories on TV. Some people are getting royally screwed right now.

There's already talk of a class-action suit on CBC Newsworld for those who booked after Jetsgo executives must have known of what was coming. How you determine the date that Jetsgo knew, I have no idea. Maybe I'll get some $ back yet...

Why is it not criminal to just be able to close shop with no advance notice. Shareholders can suck ass too, a CEO should be forced to go to jail.

They take in thousands of dollars for future flights on thursday knowing full well they have absolutely no intention of fulfilling this request on Friday when they declare bankruptcy.

I agree with the reasons for bankrupcy but I think people running businesses should NOT be shielded from criminal proceedings.

How come it is so acceptable to outright lie these days, especially by businesses.
No kidding. I'm beginning to wonder how I can go about making myself a corporation and being able to legally swindle people. "Hey, it wasn't me, it was the company".

As a side note, I flew Jetsgo twice around Christmas and never experienced delays or any problems. In fact, it was a pretty good experience.

I completely agree with this, the U.S. had the same situation with the Enron's and Worldcoms of the world, and they're exceedingly harsh with the executives now.

The Canadian government has always kind of been lax on these situations, and its going to come back and bite them hard on something like this. Especially since the Canadian Government has heavily subsidized the airline industry and gave several sweet heart lones to Jetsgo.

On one hand, I wouldn't cry if criminal proceedings became more commonplace. But on the other I would worry about new business growth if the spectar of criminal proceedings hangs over the head of every executive who's company is on the verge of failure.

A good case for flight insurance. When I was selling travel I'd always try to get the client to purchase insurance to cover stuff like this.

My sister and her husband had $800 in flights to Toronto to attend a funeral. It would cost $1500 and they can no longer afford to attend the funeral. Thats just wrong.

Had a friend stranded in Finland last year after a low-cost airline went bust.
Cost a couple hundred euros for her to get back home to the Netherlands.

Crappy situation for passengers, that's for sure.
