Elton John-Candle in The Wind, Crocodile Rock and Philadelphia Freedom....good God the man has 30 songs better than those 3 and they are just about the only songs played on the radio.
Led Zeppelin-Fool In The Rain...I'm a huge Zeppelin fan and used to proclaim that they didn't have a single song that wasn't very good. Fool In the Rain makes me want to vomit...and it's played way too much.
Pearl Jam- Daughter....that garbage made me abandon the band for ten years...I'm not kidding.
Def Leppard - Let's Get Rocked. Come on. They actually have a few songs that are good since Hysteria here and there....but the above represents all that is wrong with one of the greatest rock bands of the 80's. I still believe that Pyromania is one of the 10 best rock records ever made.
That's it off the top of my head.
Just curious Jpold...how exactly does one become a fan of the Eagles while hating Hotel California? That one has got me curious.

Van Halen - Jump
Horrible, horrible song. And yet popular radio loves it.

Big Me by the Foo Fighers is one I don't care for either.
54-40 - Ocean Pearl
Caged Rat - Soul Asylum (worst song they ever did on the best album they ever did)
Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
The Future is X-rated - Matthew Good Band
Consequence Free - Great Big Sea

Their latest single is Given Up, they just released it, but you're thinking of Shadow of the Day, one of the ballad type songs off their latest CD. I agree, anything without Shinoda from them is not good. The guy is awesome and awesome in concert to boot. So much energy.

Someone mentioned REM. I love them, but cannot abide Stand, and Shiny Happy People.

Some bands make a lot of songs... not all of them are going to be good ones.

Yeah that ones not good either. Problem with Dire Straits is that for the most part the songs they are known for aren't good representations of them as a bad. Money for Nothing sounds nothing like the rest of their work.
Sultans of Swings of course is the exception. Great song.
But most of their best work isn't well known: Tunnel of Love, Lady Writer, Expresso Love. Etc.

I used to not mind this song myself, but then the radio's overplaying of the song ruined it. The guitar riff at first is pretty good but the drums just ruin it. It sounds like some 5 year old kid has a heyday and goes nuts on a drumset.
What usually happens with me is I'll like a certain song when it first comes out, then the radio overplays it and i'll start to hate it. Then a year later when the radio's only playing the song the odd time, I'll hear it randomly and start to like it again.

Yeah good pick.
Knopler's solo work is also very good. He's also become quite an accomplished soundtrack composer.
Funny though - just as it was for Dire Straits, his most popular solo song is his worst - that lame-ass "Cannibals" song.
