Why is everyone so concerned with the huntin' N fishin'? I'm going to grab a few ropes, walk just south of Strathmore to feedlot alley and take me home some Cattle. There's no need to stalk bovine, hiding in shelters for days on end with artificial mating calls, camoflauge and a bag full of animal urine.
Nah, just walk up to them with a rope throw it around their necks and we got ourselves enough protein for a family of 4 for the year.

Wow you've missed the total idea of the end of civilization. When the world ends, the killing needs to start.

Whats the challenge of killing a cow, when you can go out and hunt down and kill something that would just as soon kill you.

It makes the eaten more sweet.

Apparently you've never seen a domesticated cattle get taunted. When teased a cow can get down right testy, onery one might say. That my friend can send shivers down the spine of even the most hardened cattle rustler.

I would go hump the best looking women who survived. I would like to die thinking that my attempt to re-populate was good enough.

I think I should be ok. I don't know how to hunt (yet, have always wanted to learn) but I can fire rifle and semi-automatic up to 9mm (I'm crap with 45), I know how to fish (not well though) and I've gone camping and on multi-day backpacking trips.

I can usually figure out how to engineer mechanical and electrical problems, but they always make more sense in my head in on my hands.

LOL That reminded me of the Indian paintings we have on Kootenay lake. They're about 70 of them along the lake and river. No one is sure how old they are or exactly why they were painted except for one. It shows a hunting party hunting a cow. That places the painting around the beginning of the 20th century because that was when the first white settlers came the valley.

So the only hope for us is for the nuclear fallout to impart beneficial genetic mutations upon us to grant us the neccessary superpowers to not only survive, but become the alpha males of a new civilization of harems?

Pretty sure I'd be fine. I grew up on a farm, spent the first 20 years of my life growing, harvesting and killing just about everything imaginable, so I'd be pretty well off.

I spent every weekend for about 10 years in Kananaskis with my dad and his friends riding in by horse to remote hunting camps, have fished high mountain lakes, made my own lean to's, made a fire using 1 match in pouring rain, used a topo map and compass and killed wild game and help dress it in the wild. One of my fondest memories was being sent out away from his camp at about 12 years old to build my own lean to in the woods. He said it was for my own survival skills....and later on I figured out it was so him and his friends could get loaded and not be bothered by some kid wondering what was going on. I've tracked moose, elk, deer and even the odd bear (although I've never seen a grizzly in the wild I've been on one of their kills that was about a day old).

I can use pretty much every calibre rifle/shotgun and handgun fairly proficiently (except handguns....not too much experience with them). I know how to trap and skin most animals. Hell, I've even made moonshine, which is BY FAR the most important skill anyone could ask for.

I'm also pretty good at the winter survival skills, having put in a few years in the winter backcountry. I can build snowcaves, have basic mountaineering skills as well as avalanche condition evaluation.

So yeah, if the apocolypse happened I'd be the guy in and around K-Country with my family running around in deer skin mukluks with a beaver hat and 30 trout on a smoker in front of my sod hut. I'd be like that guy in the Postman, except waaaaaay better looking.

And yes, my father stockpiles weapons and food (not to mention wine) in case the world ends and we need to move to the mountains. He's quite proud of it, too.

And your Dad.

Yeah, well if you made it within range range of my 300 calibre rifle and I missed, managed to outsmart our border collies herding you into an electric fence, and somehow figured out a way to make it into our root cellar (bomb shelter) without getting run over by a tractor, chances are we were severely intoxicated. It had nothing to do with your own skills.
