Yeah not a car guy here.

I popped the hood and looked at it for a while. I randomly jiggled a couple of tubes and wires.
I also swore a lot.
I may have kicked the side of the car. (Dent resistant panels dontcha know!)

Clearly one of those three things did the job.

Mechanic Shmecanic.

I can picture that panel shattering like Saddledome plexiglass in this weather doing that

Haha, the ol' Buick started this morning, barely. Hopefully that keeps up all week. There's no way I'm fixing the hood til it gets warmer.

I slept outside in minus 37 weather once. Mind you, I had military-issue arctic gear.

It was fun, kinda.

I hate living in the country during these spells. Plugged in the car last night, turned on all the taps, rounded up the animals. I prepare. Did it help? Sure. The car started this morning and the animals will make another day, but the water is frozen solid. My husband spent the day trying to unthaw it with no luck. He figures the line to the is frozen or it gave out completely in this cold.

So...in the last 2 months, we've replaced the water heater, the piping to both bathrooms, the pressure tank and now the pump?! Frick.

Ahhh...tomorrow is another day.

We had -50 temps (no windchill) in Ft McMurray back in the 80's, after about -40, everything just goes straight up (exhaust from cars, houses, etc). It's a very strange silence as well. Wicked ice fog. And if your vehicle is stored outside, the tires feel square as they freeze up.

Well to those with vehicles, some food for thought...

-newer, fully charged batteries can lose up to 50% of their potential in extreme cold weather, some can even freeze (older ones).

-an oil pan heater is king...ever try to stir honey. Thats what your motor is trying to do.

-sick days can be used in such emergencies, if played right.

Turn up the heat and have a coffee and baileys...it's supposed to be cold tomorrow too.

I like that silence. All I could hear is the crunch of my boots and my breath coming in and going out as I walked.

FYI - a good technical shell (ie gore-tex) over one of those puffy down jackets may make you look like Keith Tkachuk after a week at the Burger Barn, but also quite warm.

Now to figure out something for the feet... I have a pair of these... we'll see how these treads work on the bike pedals. They're stuffed with a lot of insulation... might miss the height of the boot...

Had one to warm me up as soon as I finished the walk from my house to class....plan on doing the same thing tomorrow. Of course, taking Baileys + Coffee to class is kinda normal for me nowadays. (The alcohol doesn't count if it's in coffee )

Its not Calgary weather.

I'm closer to the mountains...and instead of the warm air coming over as it usually does, we have a bitter wind.

how do they measure windchill anyways? i really hate that term, -30 is -30 no matter what other factors there are, all the wind does is cool things down to -30 faster. and really, what's the point of saying "feels like -47", can anyone here honestly say what -47 feels like? everything under -25 or so all feels the same
