Well a simple answer to that...i currently live in Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut, population 300. There are no restaurants let alone a Gibson dealer. Oh ya, they only way out of here is by plane! LOL

So I am going back to Newfoundland in March but I wanted to buy a Les Paul now and ship it to Newfoundland so that it is waiting for me when I get there.

Hey Axel buddy, where are you getting yours from?

When I saw the thread title I thought for a second that Mel Gibson needed a new guitar and that somehow, this was big news.

That is all I have to offer.

not a big difference to be honest.
I have never been a fan of the pearl inlays on the fret board.
I like the fret board to be clean.
the pickups are humbuckers, so I dont think thats a big difference. I may play with them a bit. from what I understand this guitar is a real "metal/thrasher" type and thats not really my bag, so I may play around with the pickups until I find a tone I like.

Look, I've had Strat in a Fender vintage Strat case shipped from Texas to Calgary for $75. The G.S.T. charged to me at the Post Office at the Mac's store up here in Edgemont (no brokerage as it was sent via U.S. Postal Service and Fenders and Gibsons are American made and therefore duty free under NAFTA) was $81. If you get charged anymore, that's a ripoff. American guitars = no duties. If they open the package to inspect you might get charged some kind of customs handling fee. Then there's just the 5% G.S.T. on top of that. A Gibson will be heaver so it might be more expensive for shipping.

I also had a guitar shipped from the U.K. and that one cost me 65 GBP which is almost $130 Canadian but that flew across the Atlantic so I guess that accounts for the heavy price.

Brokerage fees and duty fees are two different things. I know that there will be no duty but I am pretty sure some kind of brokerage comes along with it being shipped vis fedex.

Still, if the price is right I don't mind spending an extra $75 especially if the price at musiciansfriend is cheaper than I can get it anywhere in Canada.

Just FYI the studios are esigned to be less then the "normal" les pauls. They sound the same but without the looks. They are meant to be used in a studio as opposed to onstage.

I still think they look great though...

See you get Nickel hardware and flamed maple top...

I got my '72 Telecaster Thinline off them but that was during my time in the States. They did deliver quite quickly though.
