Default Help With Exam

Now that the holidays have ended i'm back at school and have to write the Manitoba Grade 12 Provincial Standard Exam (similar to diploma) over the next four days. Basically the way the exam work is you are giving a topic on your first day (today) which you then read articles about and then answers questions on for the remainder of the first day. The next two days are giving to do rough work on a composition. The composition can be anything including a poem, speech, essay, eulogy, article, short story, etc. On the fourth and final day you then write your Final Copy.

Anyways the topic for this years exam is FAIRNESS. All of the articles and stories we read today dealt with issues where injustices were performed and in some cases what people did to fight againts them. I currently have a few ideas about what to write but any ideas from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't this be talking unfair advantage of what basically is an open book exam?

Helping you out with this, wouldn't be fair.

I can't believe that this is what the provincial exams are like now.

In my day, it was 1000 multiple choice questions, 10 essay questions, and 250 short answer questions, and you had an hour to do it. And you couldn't use your fancy calculators, and they only gave you a quarter page of blank paper to work out your answers. And they issued you cheap chinese made pencils that snapped everytime you colored in the C answer on the answers books. And most people failed out of panic, and the rest of them ruthlessly soiled their pants as they're eyes blew out of their heads.

I'd probably write something about how fair it is to go to an internet message board to help you with ideas for writing a provincial exam.

Write about how FAIR an indication of your understanding it is when you get 'your' ideas from a message board .

EDIT: Wow, not only beaten to it once, but twice

That was after you had to walk to school uphill in waist deep snow while wearing your father pajamas right? And also before you walked home, also uphill, and also in the snow whilst wearing your father PJs? I love your hilariousness Cap'n C.

When I took the diplomas, they didn't tell us the topic ahead of time, and we wrote the MC and the written on the same day at the same time. They don't even do that anymore in Alberta- you get your MC one day, then later you get your short answer on another day and all that jazz. Why?

Yeah i know, when i herd the exam was like this in manitoba ( I don't believe it's the same in Alberta) i was shocked. And shantz I think going on a internet message board to get ideas for a provincial exam is completely fair with the exams structure. Kids writing it can talk to whoever they want outside of school including parents, friends, relatives, etc. Hell they can even go online and research the topic. As long as you don't plagarize anything i don't see the harm in it.

I don't get what you want, but I have to go along with the others and say that it's pretty ironic that you want us to help you with basically a diploma exam about fairness. Is everyone else going to have access to this thread who will be writing the exam... cause that would... you know.. be... you know... all FAIR... and all...

I agree. Research is research. How about the NHL's disciplinary system and how "fairness" is dictated by who the player is and whether the victim is hurt or not.

You could spend two days making a giant Price is Right Spinning Wheel of Justice as demonstrative evidence.

well there you go.
Maybe you should write about how fair it is to give kids one day to research their topic, and how unfair it can be to those kids with limited resources.

That is actually a great idea. I wonder what the person marking the exam would be thinking.

Snow, you and your sissy generation. We had to carve boots out of redwood tree's that were ripped out of the ground by the village elders, We had to walk to school through rivers of liquid hot magma. Our idea of a bag lunch is whatever we could find and stuff in a saber tooth tigers testicles.

And dads pajama's your kidding, those things were sacred in the village, we had to wear hand me downs, from our sisters, but it was a right of passage and it made us tough.

You damn kids and your editing features. In our days, everything was written in stone, there were no grammer classes because it would take weeks and thousands of man hours to dig a rock pit so that kids would have stone slabs to write on. And we didn't have fancy spell checkers. If you made a mistake you were banished to the wilderness to either die at the hands of a three headed pig or learn to spell.

And we didn't have no fancy pencils, we yanked the teath out of a bear's snarling jaw and used it's urine for ink. Thats where the saying "your report really stinks" comes from.

And we didn't have no email or internet either, we bought our porn in stores where we had to interact with sallow ######ed teenagers who didn't know where the latest cave edition of girls gone wild was. And our idea of email was to tie a note around a spear and throw it at your recipiant, but you never hit him because its hard to throw a spear with a 100 lb rock slab that smells like bear urine tied to it and you either suffered a hernia or threw up.

You kids have it so easy.

Thanks for the idea of writing about the fairness of the exam. Haha I really want to do it but I'm going to think long and hard about wether or not I should as it could backfire and end up costing me a good grade if the idea wasn't well recieved by the person marking the exam.

Apparently it's so kids cant get answers and ideas for the short answer part from the multiple choice part, among other things like not wanting to make them write that long at once blah blah blah....

Something like that. I'm actually kind of glad that the Social exam is split up though. Not to sound like a braggart or anything but I've easily got the best mark in class going into this exam (mid 90's, I believe...hell the principal, who is also our Social teacher said I probably don't even have to bother studying for the diploma). Anyways, I would hate to have to write a 2 and a half hour paper plus a 3 hour test in one day. By the end of it I'd just be scribbling whatever down just to get out of the room.

Now if only math would be that easy...
