Er.... am I the only one who looked at this thread title and thought it was about the band "Great White"?

Maybe I'm just a little too well versed in obscure 80s guitar rock...

I've seen various reef sharks, mako, dogfish, petted nurse sharks, and just 3 weeks ago was on the Whale Shark expedition (pdf link) with SRI. Super awesome amazing experiencing swimming with these big fish. The ones in the Sea of Cortez are not the largest, JUST up to about 7 meters (the largest can be double that!).
I envy you man!

Swimming among sharks would be an adrenaline rush for me.

I've uploaded a few pics from our whale shark trip before Xmas. Note this pics are thanks to one of the guys on our trip who had an insane camera setup. My underwater camera is but a mere toy compared to his dSLR with fisheye lens and dual strobe lights. We were literally nose to nose with them at times. Half my time I just tried to stay out of Andy's way so he could get these pics! I did get brushed by a couple of the sharks which was very cool.

To give it some scale, the woman in this pic is about 5 6 so I'd estimate this shark to be 15-18 feet. Not too big.

I should also make it clear whale sharks are filter feeders. Any teeth they have are only a couple millimeters in size. I don't think I'd be as cavalier if I had a white shark go past me like this!

We saw up to 15 different sharks on the trip and were able to tag 10 sharks (see the yellow tag) and get tissue samples and measurements from a number of them as well. A very successful trip.

Yeah, they are awesome pics and the experience was awesome. I am on one hand jealous of the dude and his ~$10k of camera gear, on the other hand he's go 50lbs of stuff he has to shlepp around on flights.

SRI has a number of expeditions throughout the year so if anyone wants to go on a similar trip, you can.
