Default The "I hate working in retail at Christmas" thread

Wow... so I work at Best Buy and my Lord, if I hear someone else ask if we have Wii's I'm literally going to slice my neck open in hopes of drowning them in my blood. The same applies to digital picture frames. IT'S DECEMBER 19TH DAMNIT!!! It's your own damn fault for waiting this long!!!!

As I walk around trying to just complete simple tasks for 1 customer at a time, I have about 18 people per foot asking me for help. I have product in my hand. I'm walking fast. I'm obviously headed in this direction for a reason. I wouldn't IGNORE you if I had 1 second to help. Be PATIENT when you shop at this time. It's not MY fault YOU left it until the last minute!

I can't describe how creepy/annoying it is when you walk around and literally every time you glance in the direction of someone's face they are trying ridiculously hard to make eye contact with you. It's to the point where I have to stare at one spot on a wall just above people's heads and just walk towards it like a tank- keep my legs straight while I walk, turning my torso to squeeze through people, while also keeping my head straight.

Don't you even DARE to complain about the crowds. YOU ARE the crowd.

Years ago working retail, I tried everything. I have only ever found 2 things that help.

1) Drinking.

2) A Gun.

Past that, you're just gonna hafta deal with it.

BTW, do you know where I can get one of those digital picture frames? They're pretty sweet.

Lol you probably saw me shopping at Best Buy yesterday. However, I didn't really have any questions. Walked in, picked up a PSP for a present, paid, and then left.

You are a victim of "cattleitis"...The masses congregate, line up, butt in...like cows. My shopping was done last month, now i don't have to deal with crowds.

Best time to shop: December 24th. Time pressure, limited options, nobody but efficient bachelors in the stores, and some places are already switching to boxing day prices.

Oh, and office supply stores are good for digital picture frames. I just got one at Staples after some jacktard at Future Shop said "we're all out, good luck finding one in this city buddy." Friggin' Staples was just one block down.

Having worked retail for many years (but no more) I have really developed patience and understanding with the clerks. I know what they are going through. It was really frustrating to deal with 17 customers who each thought that they were too good to wait their turn.

On the other hand with my experience I can tell when a clerk is simply not trying to give you good customer service. If you're busy with other customers, tell me. I'll wait. If you just don't care to give proper customer service then go find another job. I did when I began to feel that way.

So I was in West Ed tonight doing some shopping. There is store there called play me or game world right by the ice rink. There is a stack of Wii's in the store, probably 10+. I'm not looking for any but I know my boss is. So I call him in Calgary and say hey, this store here has a bunch of Wii's, you want me to pick you one up. He says sure, get two if you don't mind. I go in to buy them and the guy is like....ah....actually we are selling them for $799 each. Ok then, so much for that idea.

I didn't realize they were allowed to do that. But that is capitalisim I guess.

I was a young buck, probably 18 or so, healthy. Working retail at Christmas gave me chest pains. I think everyone should work retail, to give them an idea what clerks go through...

I'm used to business deals such as these.

Its not the first time the Ol' Louisville had to wingman a deal.

Where and when?
