Anyone know about Aeroplan Points?
I got about 125,000 aeroplan points and figure it's got to be good for something... Where could I take me and my wife for a few days with thoes kinda points?...
Edmonton is not an option.....
Somewhere warm preferably...

If you book far enough in advance you can go as far as Europe for the two of you. I'm going to Hawaii in January and it cost me 80,000 points for my wife and I. Although you have to pay departure taxes and the like. I was late booking as well so I have a goat trail route that goes, Edmonton-Calgary-Los Angeles, overnight than Honolulu, and Honolulu-Vancouver overnight-Edmonton coming home. You usually can get the basic flights, but you have to book with ample notice.

25K gets you Lower 48 states.
30K (per person) gets you mexico, 40K gets you Hawaii and CEntral America,
50K South America. 60K gets you Europe.
The biggest problem is booking short term. They will usually chrage more points for premium flights (ie direct). Go search out a destination and if you are flexible you can get somehwere pretty easy.
You will be charged for taxes, above using your credits.
I flew 2 people to NYC for a weekend in November for 50K.

if only flights... u could get all the way to Europe...
but if you want flights AND hotel off the points, I would have no idea... but it'd be definitely somewhere within North America

We just got back from the Caribbean - flew down on aeroplan points, in business class, for 120,000 but you can do economy class for only 80,000 miles. (we go down there every year on Aeroplan)
You do have to book early depending where exactly in the Caribbean you go but the process of booking is pretty easy to do online.

Speaking of Aeroplan, has anyone noticed a significant increase in what you pay to redeem them? I just booked a flight to Orlando and it cost $132 for taxes and service fees. In the past, I only had to pay $50-$60. What's up?

When u get to see the tickets... I know that WestJet has every fee that u paid listed on there (unfortunately, that is not the case with AirCanada)... I imagine that the Aeroplan points will only cover the cost of the fare so you still have all the other fees you have to pay on top of the fare... So what u're essentially paying are the fuel charges, AIF, Security and whatever other fees or taxes there is.

Don't Aeroplan miles expire if you don't use them over 1-2 years?

Only if your account is inactive now do they expire. So go buy gas at Esso once a year and you'll keep your account active.

I've gone to the website... and there are like 300 packages and 298 of them are to disney land.... If my wife was into mickey I'd consider it, if she was into mnnie i'd have booked it already!!! ...
Anyone know if there are non advertised packages.. like you can call up a travel agent and when they ask for your credit card you hand um your aeroplan card...
On a side note... it's like 3 years worth of points... I buy gas at esso and use my aeroplan visa for everything so it adds up.

You don't have to buy a package, you can just use the air. Or you can just use their hotel and buy your own air. You can buy air with hotel with car rental or all of them independently.
And no, you can't just call up a travel agent and use their packages. You use your Aeroplan points for packages they give, not packages others give. Aeroplan has certain hotel chains they use, certain car rental agencies etc.

I know this might seem random, but I bought a buncha orange juice that gave you bonus aeroplan miles if you did something (maybe entered a code), and I don't collect them. If you want the codes just shoot me a pm and I will pass them along.

I have found it much cheaper to book my own accomodations and car rental rather than use points for them.

Flights to NA is the best deal imo. 25k gets you anywhere in NA. i just booked two flights to TO for 50k pts. You can fly all the way to HK/Japan for 75k pts.
