Default Reasons for locking up a thread

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=51335

I would have to agree with Stev0 in that locking up a thread simply because a mod think a thread is "Lame" is very unprofessional.

While I down right disagree with the thread starter's idea, I don't believe it deserves to be locked up because it goes against the majority's opinion.

My suggestion to the moderators of CP is to loosen up a bit. I've been a reader of CP for many months and have only registered recently, but since going deeper into the site, I get the impression that some moderators exercise their abilities to lock threads and ban users to satisfy their own ego.

Thank you for taking this into consideration

While not being a mod and not knowing their thought process, I have been here for a number of years. Here are my thoughts....

I thought that the thread started out somewhat serious, but ended up being a total farce. There is a certain level of "quality" that is strived for here, and that thread didn't come close to meeting it.

If you have a problem with it, PM the 'Moderator' account. They should be the ones to discuss it with you.

1) Unprofessional? Geez, I guess Jiri and I aren't getting our raises this year.

2) If you read my post in the second locked thread you will see that I put a link to the board guidelines in there. Do me a favor and read the first bullet point in #1.

calculoso is correct in both respects. The thread didn't meet the level of "quality" that we'd like to see for threads and discussion. He's also right in that those kinds of questions can be directed to the Moderator account, though I'll answer this here as it might be helpful to others.

The thread wasn't locked because of the idea itself, but the presentation, lack of support (i.e. you can't start a thread like that and not stick around to support your idea, otherwise it's like a drive-by shooting), and how the thread progressed made it a lame duck thread; there was little meaningful discussion taking place in it so it was locked.

You'll also note that the moderator locked the thread because it was lame, not because the original idea was or wasn't lame.

It's got nothing to do with ego, we usually discuss things like thread locking as a moderation team to make sure we agree, so ego isn't a part of it.

Hope that answers your question, if you have further concerns you can PM the Moderator account.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see KG had posted, as you can see he can say what I can but in far fewer words
