Tow the company line!!

Although I feel for this guy, I have mixed emotions on the subject. As I've mentioned before, I work in the beer industry and this is pretty standard policy. If you are out in public, you buy the brand of the company you work for. I am expected to do the same. I understand this guys frustration as well because the company I work for doesn't brew a decent dark beer, which is my favourite type of beer, so I am buying a competitors beer from time to time.

Does company policy go too far sometimes? Do you guys have to tolerate any annoying/bizarre company policies?

perhaps they should start making a product that people will enjoy by their own will, and not by force or marketing tactics. Besides, by firing that man, Miller will have more negative publicity over this then if they would have just kept the guy...

What a joke. The guy is the freaking forklift driver for crying out loud. If they want him to drink Miller light when he's not a work then they should pay for it. If they want him to be an "ambassador" when he's off the clock, they should pay for that as well.

I read a story last week about a medical clinic in the States and they had a strict no-smoking policy that was in effect 24 hours a day. Not a "no smoking here" kind of thing but a "no smoking anywhere, ever" policy. Fatties were next though that'll be a little tougher.

but every one knows that word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising there is. You have to build an environment where your employees go out and push your product on their own, not through means that are forced. That just creates resentment.

You can bet your balls that this man, and anyone who hears it, will be doing a little word of mouth campaign agaisnt miller however.... personally, next time i get offered a miller product, im going for the competition.

Man, Bud should offer this guy a job. Possibly even make a comercial out of it. I don't think the story has received enough national attention for it to be worth their while, but man would that be a kick in the nuts for Miller

I think it all depends on if he signed something that stated 'you are not to consume other products.' In Canada I don't think that would fly at all unless the guy either singed something or knew he would get fired for doing that. If I worked at the Budweiser Brewing Co. I definantly would start pushing this one in the national media. I am sure that they have a few contacts that would put this in the wacky news section, or whatever they have at the end of the newscasts these days. Let it stew for a week or two, and then start an advertising campaign based on him choosing their beer, and make it into a joke in the face of Miller.
