Did anyone else notice that Best buy got rid of the picture (the one that read "U$ Price Match" and had a US dollar on it.) They still are saying that they have dropped their prices on thousands of items but the "U$ Price match" slogan is gonzo... I suspect we were not the only consumers angry about the misleading message.

So for all those who want to let companies know that you are unhappy with the pricing, instead of making some employee miserable, so that they will pass that on to their manager, just ask for the number or email for head office and give head office hell.

Was there no one else in the store? I can't believe no one stepped in on your behalf. I would have gone nuclear if I'd seen that. I HATE people who take out their frustrations on someone who had no hand in creating the problem. I really dislike people some days.

So, I took a look at one item that I would actually be willing to buy if they were selling it at the US price, a low-end HD-DVD player - the Toshiba HD-A3.
Best Buy Canada: $349.99
Best Buy US: $199.99 (on sale from $299.99 - click on "See price in cart" to see the sale price)
Not buying it for $350. Or $300 for that matter.
James.

I work alone for the first hour of every shift because it's usually dead in the store at 9:30. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have given it to me if there was someone else in the store. I'm pretty small and un-intimdating, so he probably felt alright bullying someone smaller than himself. My theory is that he's used to getting his way after being a little bitchy and whiny and then lost it when he realized I wasn't going to budge.

/\ You need to stick up for yourself. I worked in retail and honestly I got angry customers all the time and they are always shocked when I talk back, they really don't know how to respond. Would you seriously like me to sit back and listen to your crap, I've refused service several times as well. There is more than enough places that'll refuse you service for yelling at an employee.

Rexall who just bought out half the super drug marts in Calgary honors all American prices on magazines, books and hallmark cards.
hope to see more retailers do this in the future.

Usually, when I just hold my ground and not give in, they just get mad and leave. This guy just gave it to me. I've never had anyone be as mean, for lack of a better word, to me before. And I've been at this job for 3 years. My manager has always told me that I don't get paid enough to be put down and I should have just told him to get the hell out, but I've never had to do that, so I was just shocked. I mean, this is Hallmark.

The missus and I just returned yesterday from the U.S. where we checked prices at Best Buy on a list of half a dozen electronics products. All were exactly the same price as the local BB store. To the penny. We didn't buy anything.

Yes. You can spend amounts that depend on the length of your stay, but big-ticket items require duty.

If the product is manufactured in either Mexico or the US (or, I assume Canada), it won't be subject to duty under NAFTA. Otherwise, you'll have to pay duty and GST to bring it back into Canada if it exceeds your exemption limit.

I just came back last night with two 42" Panasonic Plasma's. The customs officer said that Duty (5%) must be paid on any flat panel display over 15", regardless of where it is made. I didnt understand that to be the case, but I was not going to argue on the spot. I just paid the 5% duty and 6% GST on the amount above my length of stay exemptions.

When my TV got shipped, I didn't pay duty or GST. Not paying GST seemed odd but you shouldn't have had to pay duty. You may want to look into that a bit more. I think they made an error.
