I imagine the weather in Toronto was similar to Waterloo yesterday (since Waterloo is ~ an hour away on the 401.) School buses were cancelled in Waterloo yesterday because there was freezing rain overnight followed by snow in the morning that continued into the afternoon. So lots of ice covered by snow. It was tricky walking in to the University without cracking my head open due to snow covered ice, so if it was similar in Toronto I think the article is downplaying what the weather was like.
Where is the article "'Wimpy' School buses in Kitchener-Waterloo cancelled due to a Teeny Bit of Snow"?

Edited to add another Toronto Star article from Yesterday:
http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/278872
So, freezing rain followed by 5-10 cm of snow.. Police are worried about accidents, road conditions..

So the pancake breakfast in Calgary was cancelled because of a snow/ice strom in KW?

Its a pancake breakfast in Toronto put on by Calgarians.. no? That's how I read the article, maybe I misread it.
"It was probably for the safety of all the people," said Stampeders fan Shauna Aab on hearing of the cancellation. "Calgarians are so good-hearted."
"They didn't have a permit," suggested another member in her group. "They got bogged down filling out applications in triplicate from Toronto City Hall."
Why would they apply for a permit from Toronto City Hall if it was in Calgary? Why would the Toronto Star print an article about a cancellation in Calgary? Front St W (where the breakfast was supposed to be) is right in downtown Toronto.

"They had actually made a few pancakes," said Simair, his face painted green-and-white Roughrider colours. "But the CFL shut them down."
 It was in Toronto.

The headline should read "Toronto pancake breakfast shutdown"
 And how is this news?

I'm not going to lie, I didn't read the article. I just went by the thread title "calgary cancels...." so I just assumed it was in Calgary. My bad.

I should have put "Calgary contingent" in the headline to be more specific.

I've heard from people there for the festivities that the City/CFL shut down a lot of the outdoor activities, not the specific people themselves.
And this article is ridiculous. The headline is about wimpy Calgarians and then it goes on to say their not sure if it was the Calgarians or the league or city who canceled the party. That's great investigative journalism right there.

So basically The Star jumped on an opportunity to diss Calgary? Still a little bitter about the whole 'Calgary running the country' comment from last year perhaps?
