This could be amazing... or really suck.
I get a vibe of the New Gozilla and the Blair Witch Project.

Around the 1:10 mark of the trailer - why does it look like shark people behind the tent?
Maybe its an attack of the giant shark people? That would be some great TV.

Hazmat suit's. I thought I saw shadowy tubes leading up to the head area. It would also explain why the person in the middle was struggling.

I'm definitely going to see this one... though I'm fully expecting to be disappointed.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of J.J. Abrams... I guess part of me is hoping that if Cloverfield convinces me, then Star Trek might not be lousy either.

Good preview, but I'm skeptical about the movie. My gut feeling is that it will be a cheesy godzilla like movie.

From what I heard, it's a parasite in NYC. The rumors going around earlier was that the movie was going to be called 'The Parasite'.
Just passing on what I had heard.

I've heard that its centered on Slusho and how its secret ingredient is a parasite that grows in people who drink enough (more than 6) and grows out of them, creating little monsters. Undersea mining of the slusho ingredient awakes the big mack daddy monster and all hell ensues.

Yeah, this 5 min clip looks awesome, but is the whole movie going to be them running around going WTF? I doubt it. At some point we have to be introduced to the beast and at some point they have to fight back against it. They are portraying this film as maybe a survival film of some regular people, but I could see this turn into some sort of shoot em up movie once the creature is introduced. Not saying that's necessarialy bad, but it's pretty hard to judge this movie based on this clip since we don't learn a thing or know where the movie will go from here.

It is not a previous monster. NOT godzilla. NOT mothra. NOT chutlu. NOT voltron.
I have been following this movie since the first preview came out in July before Transformers. Can't wait. Viral marketing at its best.

Abrams:
Quote:
J. J. Abrams conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan. He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense."
