where to take your pc for a quick (but effective) fix?
I've had it ...
boot issues, lock ups, reintalls of XP, now it just seizes before XP loads regardless of which method I use to boot up.
time for help.
Thoughts?
I know Memory Express can get pretty backed up.

First guess would be a bad stick of RAM. Download memtest86 and run it, and see what it finds. You can get it here: http://www.memtest86.com/

+1 on the checking of the Ram.
I personally use SpinRite - takes a while but has fixed any issue I have ever come across.
Its not free however.

There's a boot CD called the Ultimate Boot CD that should boot and run, and it's got loads of memory tests and such.

where are you located bingo? if you can get the system to me in nw thorncliffe, i can run those tests and otherwise check it out for you.
my bet would be ram, power supply failing and or loose cable connections in that order

I think CP is your best bet for a quick fix! If there are issues even on fresh installs, it's hardware and not likely to be fixed easily, you can however, diagnose which part is giving you the headaches and replace it.
You just need a CP friend who happens to have a spare of various parts and you can replace them one by one to see if anything changes.

OK guys. ...
put the iso from Ultimate Boot Disk to a CD ROM, and have run a few utilities ... still doesn't show any problems
Which ones should I run.
The thing goes black screen after it ramps up ... never gets to the Windows XP screen. Plus I've had those Hal.dll issues, and boot.ini problems.
Thanks

while you are doing all this, it wouldnt hurt to have the side panel removed - if it is a heat thing, you should notice right away

Ive taken my pc to memory express 3 times, the waiting isnt that bad, usually 3-5 days, but they do a damn good job. NEVER take it to a retail store like Futureshop to fix it. They take forever and do a horrible job.

I have used tech squad. Depending on how fast you want them to work on it depends on how much you pay.
