Sorry I just don't see the point of these type of ads. I can't see how someone seeing this ad who had intentions on using a gun would think "oh wow that does a ton of damage I better not use this gun".

Cool footage though.

Very cool. The water bottle and the watermelon were neat and I cant believe how the ketchup nearly vaporized.

I'll admit, my mind was racing when the kids head popped up. I was thinking "OMG... how are they going to computer generate this... I dont want to see this... I get the idea!" And then, just text. Haha.

Since we are all (unfortunately) desensitized to violence these days, I would usually agree with you. But i do think slowing it down gives a new perspective, since it demonstrates the amount of pure force a bullet can cause on an object in a way that you dont tend to see in movies or other media forms.

For you or I, it might not be that shocking, but I really do think kids need to see this kind of stuff...violence is so overly glorified in our society, that it hardly even seems like a big deal now. Using guns should be a big deal.

Good points but does this commercial do that?

The message at a surface level is that stuff looks really cool when you shoot it.

Fart is it not possible that a kid could want to go out and try shooting some other stuff too to see how cool it looks.

I think the ad totally misses the mark (pun intended)

Now if you show some children after they've been chewed up on the streets of Mogadishu, the point might get across.

Nuts to Mogadishu, show kids in their neighborhood. That way it's not just brushed aside with a "oh, it sure must suck to live there" sentiment, but actually has a basis in people's own reality.

oh, im sure it would...hell, it makes me want to go shoot stuff. I think the difference lies in knowing and respecting the power of guns, and being completely unaware or desesitized to them. Let's just say I'd rather my (nonexistent) kid go shoot a gun after seeing this video, than after playing Grand Theft Auto.

Do you think its real?

I've shot alot of things, and usually the bullet just leaves a couple of holes.

I know certain bullets like hollow points are supposed to cause more damage, but would they really cause a watermelon to just explode like that?

I was under the impression that the reason hollow points cause more damage is because they break up more easily and the shrapnel rips things apart. That bullet didn't deform at all, so I'm curious about what is causing such massive damage to the watermelon.

I was thinking that too. It must have been hollow point or a high powered rifle (like a .306). Just a regular handheld would leave a pretty clean in and out hole... but that wouldnt be as exciting right?

Clearly what we need to do is get some guns and give 'er a go ourselves.

I can think of about 20 other neat things that I'd like to shoot.

For one - a big pile of jello - how can you make that commercial and not include a big pile of jello?
