From Long Beach to South Beach

Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Kings today have announced the trade of Veteran defender Mike VanRyn to the Florida Panthers in exhange for defender Andrej Meszaros and young power forward Martin Hanzal. Changing address along with VanRyn is young forward Brandon Bochenski and defensive prospect Peter Harrold.

"Well it is tough to see a player of VanRyn's caliber leave. But we think that Andrej is ready to make a name for himself in this league and we hope he will take this opportunity to do as such." said Coach Mike Keenan when asked about the move. "We wish all the best to Mike in Florida and would like to thank him for the contribution to the club and community".

Dion Phaneuf was reached for comment at his palatial estate in Malibu and had the following to remark, "I am kind of shocked to see Mike go. We went through a lot of battles together. I haven't played with Andrej but I hear he is a talented player with great work ethic. He should fit in well with the identity of our blueline. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do on the ice".

After the move the Los Angeles Kings blueline shapes up as follows...

Dion Phaneuf - John-Michael Liles
Andrej Meszaros - Jordan Leopold
Jarret Stoll - Brent Seabrook

Newest member of the Kings blueline Andrej Meszaros

Kings Korner: It is anticipated that Meszaros will now be give a chance to form the top pairing on defence with Dion Phaneuf. Jaroslav Hlinka was seen today in practice with the third line in anticipation of receiving more ice time in light of Bochenski's departure. Martin Hanzal will be roomed with Peter Mueller at the Mansion in order to acclimate himself to the City of Angels.

Nice deal for LA. Van Ryn is okay, but bad defensively and an upcoming UFA. They dump him off for one of the best young defenders in Meszaros, who's already rated better than Van Ryn. I guess FLA gets Bochenski and he's better than Hanzal but not sure if that upgrade is worth giving up Meszaros.

How was this a tough trade? You offered VanRyn to everyone in the league at least twice

We look at the deal this way.

Yes Mezaros is young and good and we were not really looking to move him but we were looking to make a move.

Van Ryn is ok and is a pending UFA but does have a nice SC rating and should help our powerplay.

For today we think we break even and maybe gain alittle offense. Does this hurt the furture sure but this is the CPHL and I am not sure you can look too far into the future.

Are we a better team today? Maybe...are we a worse team today not so sure.

Oh well. Dinner was great today. I highly recommend everyone do a prime rib roast a on spit on the BBQ. A nice red wine and all is good.

Yeah, some how L.A. just seems to keep trading piles of second rate talent for top end talent. How you keep winning these deals I wish I knew...because I need to kill a few GM's in some deals to get my team fixed. Please Jimmy teach me how to rape!!! Hahahahahaha

Cause Jimmy doesn't pull the trigger unless the deal is in his favor, a lot.

Then the players are sucked into the blackhole that is LA, never to be seen again!

You make 200 offers every week eventually one comes through. LA has got some real good young players but can a team win in the sim that has 0 experiance? Not sure but it seems every team that has won the cup so far has had a rich crop of veteran players.

Add Brad Stuart and I might accept the deal.

It's proven year after year that you need vets to win it all - at some point teams have to decide to go for it and hang on to a couple guys even if you know you will lose them for nothing in the off-season.
