Deep Fried mouse found in Frito Lay bag

HAVRE, Mont. (AP) - Frito-Lay Inc. says it will investigate a Havre man's "unsubstantiated claim" that he found a deep-fried mouse in a bag of barbecue potato chips.

Jack Hines, a 66-year-old former laborer and contractor, said he was snacking on the chips Tuesday when he pulled out the crispy rodent.

"Good thing I seen it. I got it all the way up to my mouth," he said. "I felt the fur, I brought it back down and just looked at it and threw it behind my back."

A dead mouse found in a middle school student's barbecue- flavored potato chips appears to have gnawed its way through the bag and was not a hoax or production-line mishap, Frito-Lay announced Monday.

Employees at the Plano, Texas-based company found a chew hole in the bag through which the mouse likely entered, Frito-Lay said in a statement.

But exactly when and where the mouse may have slipped into its flavorful, saltine grave remains a mystery.

Dion, that's a different story. This thread is about an older man of 66 while the other is a middle school kid.

A similar discovery occurred earlier this year in Colorado, Gonzalez said. An investigation in that case revealed the mouse had chewed its way into the chip bag after it had left the Frito-Lay plant.

this reeks of the wendy's "finger licking good" chili fiasco. how hard would it be for someone to deep fry a dead mouse they have and just throw it into a bag of chips, hoping for a big payday?

Helena, Montana, Aug. 7 - Snack maker Frito-Lay said Tuesday that a mouse found in a Montana man's bag of potato chips likely entered the bag in the man's house, and was definitely not deep fried at the factory.

An independent veterinary pathologist found that the mouse entered the bag alive after it left the factory, Frito-Lay said Tuesday. The Montana Department of Health said it agreed.

The bag of chips had been left open for two weeks in the man's house before the mouse was found, Frito-Lay spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez said. The pathologist also found evidence of mouse droppings in the bag, she said.

Hines, 66, said he is looking for a lawyer to help him pursue the matter.

I used to work for Frito-Lay in Calgary.

It is MUCH more likely that the mouse entered the bag in the store or at a guys house than the factory. Some stores I went to, even in Calgary, I would never buy anything from. They were gross and I am sure mice were living there... if the bag is not sealed 100% they can smell the food so they'll chew through to get it.

However, if the mouse was actually deep-fried then this man is due for some serious settlement money.

I'm sure he will not have any problems finding a lawyer to take his case. They will probably sue Frito Lay for not making potato chip bags that can seal itself up when left unattended.

I think you grossly over-estimate the integrity of American Lawyers.

Granted, this is no case for a John Grisham novel or anything, but I imagine some lawyer will try their luck at this.
