I might be in the minority, but if Zadarov is willing to sign a contract that would be close in AAV to what Kylington is willing to sign for, I would probably sign Z and look to trade Kylington for a return.
I like Kylington, but I think the Flames will miss that size and physical presence on the back end, and it'd be a way to recover some futures too.
Obviously keeping both would be the most ideal situation, but the cap situation makes that very unlikely.

I went from super-excited when we got him, to super-not-excited during the first couple weeks of the season, to super-relieved during the rest of the season, to super-excited during the playoffs.
I would love to have him back, 110%. Not at $4M though.

Zadarov @ $4,000,000 AAV + a trade return for Kylington > Kylington @ $4,000,000 AAV
Yay or nay?
Of course, that AAV is just a guess right now.

I think Kylington will end up signing a short-term deal probably around 1.8-2.2M.

Yeah, or maybe $2.5M, but I don't think he's getting anything near $4M

We will see. I think he's in Sutter's plans or he isn't. Do Valamaki or Mackey supplant him? Got limited ice time even when Tanev went out for those 3 games.
You'd think this experience should give him a heads up, but Sutter needs to see consistentcy from players for them to trust, and in the playoffs the ice time told the story when Stone was getting more ice.
Started out hot under Sutter but definitely tailed off and down as the games started piling up.
I suspect he's back but my guess is one him and the two mentioned above, are not.

I think Zadorov played himself into a pretty good free agent contract and while I'd love to keep him, Gudbransons a better deal, a sounder defender and a cheaper fit and still brings size and toughness. IF we can and have to keep Lucic the team will still have some policemen. If they somehow, someway send Lucic out to gain cap space then I think we are getting thin.

No chance Zadorov is a flame. Like the player. But he’s not a 4 million plus defender. He’s just not. I would sign Gudbranson for 2 million or more less. And roll with Mackey and valamaki.

This. I'd also bring back Stone.

I liked Zadorov. I'd have him back for the right price.

I really, really loved Zadorov as a Flame. It would be so sweet if he came back. He was great I thought.

No kidding. Have to sign him and Tkachuk just to know how much money we have to spend on everyone else... but the longer that takes, the less time we have before some of our other guys can start getting some competing offers.

I have a feeling the Flames have let MT and JG and others, who didn't want to negotiate while the season was on, know, to give the Flames an answer ahead of the draft so the Flames can allocate resources, trades and $ to building the team going forward, with or without them.
In this day and age, agents and GM's have a pretty good idea already what other teams would offer $ wise to UFAs well in advance, so it will be no shock, and thus it comes down to the decision of the player if they want to stay or go, given the offers and situations with the competing organizations.
I think if the Flames were fair in giving players these few weeks post season and before the draft, I think the player would respect that all season, and comply with the Flames request.

Pay Z market value for 3-years, trade Kylington for depth and prospects or upgrade, Mackey replaces Kylington. This past season, it’s good to see Kylington stepped up. However, there’s a lot of times when he’s totally outhandled by bigger forwards. It’s like watching a guy bear-hugging a tree and that’s how he gets into defensive troubles when he loses all the battles in his own zones.
So Z moves to either first or second line pairing. Mackey goes to 3rd pairing with Gudbransson (if signed).
