In this case younger isn't better, PLD is pretty bad. At least Huberdeau tries.

I like Huberdeau but that’s the stretch
They are paying a one dimensional guy 10.5M to score 40-50 pt. They have a problem.

PLD has a good buyout because of the 1/3d rule. Kings wouldn't trade PLD for Huberdeau if they wanted to get rid of him.

PLD has quit on teams, I don't think the same can be said for Huberdeau.
PLD wanted this, wanted the bright lights and the fact he is getting called out by his own teammates speaks volumes of his character.
|
Plus he's playing with a guy who many people pointed out was a healthy scratch in the POs for the Devils.

Huberdeau can be LTIR’d at some point, well after the cap is over $100M.

Assuming you would pay him out, PLD can actually be paid out for a fraction of his cost due to his age.
But if I had to simply pick a player, I'd go with Huberdeau.

Exactly, the point of the trade is to buy out PLD.

So would LA take the risk to get Huberdeau and a bargained Markstrom for 2 yrs and give up PLD easy buyout.

Huberdeau won't be a 40-50 point player if the Flames actually find offensive talent to play him with

I still think Huberdeau will bounce back for us. I'm not giving up on him. There's an elite player there, just need to find a way to finally unlock him.

When is this going to happen?
Huberdeau is going to be on a rebuilding team for the foreseeable future.

I honestly think it’s somewhere in between; I don’t think we will ever see that 115 pt Huby or even a 100 pt Huby ever again but I do think we could see point a game Huby and consistently for at least a little while/first half of his contract. Hopefully the Flames make some more good, savvy moves here towards the deadline that set us up for a franchise changing offseason. Once the roster gets another good refresh here and roles start to settle in and define themselves I think Huby will shine.

127 games as a Flame, and we're all still waiting for the "bounce back"

My guess as well. For whatever reason Lindholm didn't click with Huberdeau, but once the Flames get things squared away with the guys they looking to trade they will start focusing on players that fit with Huberdeau. It is quite possible that will take care of itself, but Huberdeau is still a good player with a good attitude. He has worked on his defensive game and now it's up to the Flames. However I think they're just focusing on some of the bigger problems right now.

It could happen. Jeff Skinner and Karlsson did it.

Tomorrow? with all due respect its not exactly hard to improve upon Lindholm offensively, especially the way he was playing. Flames have a decent two way team but they lack offensive skill at forward...that will improve as early as tomorrow IMO.

He’s played 17 percent of his committed time here and he’s played 7 percent of the total contract he signed with Calgary… totally willing to wait a little longer to see if he’ll find a different gear here.
