Chicago is a fantastic city, been there many times.
Great food scene (one of the best in N.A)
Great river district
Great theatres/show/museum
2 baseball teams, cubs stadium is super nice
Great rail system to get around
Avoid south side at all costs!

Go to a great blues club like Buddy Guy's or Kingston Mines or Blue Chicago with. Go to MLB (2 teams), NFL, Us college football. See one of the world's best art collections at the AIC. Go to Second City. River or lake cruises.
For me, just going out, it's NYC, Nashville, Chicago and Vegas. Maybe San Antonio as well.

What can you do in Calgary that you can’t do in Lethbridge?
That, but moreso.

One thing to note, is that for anyone who loves professional sports, which strangely enough most professional athletes do, just about any major American city will blow a Canadian city out of the water.
When there's a big football game on in Chicago, Pittsburgh, or even Seattle, the whole city is buzzing. The bars are jammed full of people having a great time. You only really see that atmosphere, which is common in America, during a deep NHL playoff run. Toronto is slightly better, as the Raptors have some support, but its' not close to the USA.
Anybody who grew up in America as a sports fan is going to be bored to death living in a Canadian market. Telling kids that grew up in American cities playing in high end sports programs in major cities that they should just start to enjoy the outdoors isn't going to get you anywhere. Things are only going to get worse as more kids from the NCAA and the US NTDP program become a larger proportion of NHL players, which they will.

What's the best sports bar in Calgary? That would probably not crack the top 50 (or even 100) in Chicago. Same deal with pubs, nightclubs and restaurants. No one does anything Calgary.

Calgary has an under-rated Restaurant scene. Several would compete with Chicago's best.

I love Calgary very, very much and will vouch for the city wherever I can, but the food scene really is peanuts compared to many other metropolitan areas across North America. It's getting significantly better in quality and experience as the city grows, but it's got a LONG way to go - particularly in terms of number of establishments. Hell, Dundas Street in Toronto alone has as many quality restaurants, if not more, than in all of Calgary.

Number of establishments sure. I think that's a function of city size.

Metro Chicago is almost 9.5M people. It's not much of a competition.

Well Lamorne Morris likes us ! (although still puts Chicago ahead)

What surprised him when filming this season of Fargo in Calgary
It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be desolate. When you watch Fargo, you see the plains, the vast fields, and you’re like, Man, there’s got to be nothing to do out there. Then you get there, and people are nice. The nightlife is great. It’s one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The restaurant scene is insane. Some of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life are in Calgary, and people don't talk about it! At least, I’d never heard anything about Calgary. It might be the best culture and restaurant scene in Canada, and I've been all over Canada. It feels better than L.A.'s food scene. Not better than Chicago or New York, but definitely in the top five out of the places that I've been all over the world. I was thoroughly shocked at how great the restaurants were.

People keep forgetting for rich people, it’s totally different
There are just more options for them in big American cities. And yeah, they don’t go anywhere close to the ghetto

I don't think LA has a great food scene. But Vegas does - a lot of big time chefs and also some out of the way spots. And depending on what you're into so does Nashvill and Montreal.

Toronto ex-pat and I haven’t found even close to the same variety of food offerings, and not the same top calibre options, here in Calgary. Thai food is one that I just haven’t found anything in same realm as Toronto.
And, IMO, Toronto is far behind Chicago in regards to overall food scene. Chicago is on New York level.

yeah I teased my LA friends with that article- mind you they are foodies and I have had some fantastic meals with them in LA
anyways I have no major misunderstanding about where Calgary sits in the pecking order..and for sure Chicago, NYC, MTL, some of my favourite cities in the world, vegas and Nash too for what they are
