Wonder what people’s thoughts would be on a Markstrom (retained) to LA might be?
Markstrom (retained) for Copley or Talbot / 2024 1st / prospect?
I think/hope the Flames start a 1-2 year tear down here. So resting salary for 3 years might be palatable. I don’t see a scenario where the Flames will be able to find a taker for either Huberdeau or Kadri. All other pending UFA’s should be on the table although you’re probably not able to make many moves until January/February.
If the Flames do go in this direction I think going with a Wolf - Vladar tandem would be nice to see.

I’d be fine if they traded markstrom. Don’t know if he gets a 1st back though

If Markstrom retained can get a first, you do that all day long.

I don't see him getting that value personally, but would make the deal. When was the last time a mediocre starting goalie got a good return at the tdl?

I’d do that all day. Trouble is LA needs to get past the Oilers to take the next step and unfortunately Marky can’t stop pucks when he play them. They say no.

Lol, looks like that problem is going to resolve itself. How is Markstrom against Arizona?

I was thinking the same yesterday when I saw the tweet
Dealing with Ottawa here could be a real opportunity.
I wouldn’t like to see Hanifin moved without a 1st rounder coming back though
The Sens are in cap trouble but the emergence of Greig as their 2nd line Center makes Pinto expendable.
Hanifin (retained) plus a 3rd for Ott 24 or 25 1st plus Pinto(rfa rights)
with Pintos suspension it would buy time to make other moves and fit him under our cap. Great way to kick off the rebuild.
On second thought though, doesn’t look like Ottawa is gonna be a playoff team yet anyways. They probably just roll with what they have. No way they give up a 1st for a rental in this case. Oh well.

Yes. I also wonder though if Markstrom can put a couple strong performances together against the Oilers this year if that changes the perception.
If things don’t get turned around here real quick then it’s probably safe to assume the Flames will move their UFA’s (god, I hope). It will be interesting to see if there are other players though that could be moved. Ie: I wonder if there is a surprise out there be it Markstrom or Colemam or Weegar. Not that I dislike or think the Flames should purposely try to move those guys, I just wonder if there will be a ‘didn’t see that one coming’ type move.

Also a big reason it's so hard to make trades.

This is why I always laugh when people go on about Calgary being a cap team like it means anything. Basically everyone is.
4 teams have over 5M in cap space

Yeah, supporting a cap team is like the bare minimum an ownership group can do. It's not 2005 anymore. If that's the best praise anyone can give Edwards, well...

Exactly why any criticism of current management for not making enough changes at this point, should be put on hold. It is practically impossible to make good trades right now.

I don't like Edwards in principial due to the way CNRL has treated its employees throughout its existence.
Why do you like the guy?
